PALGN reviewed Tony Hawk's Underground 2 for the PlayStation 2 last year, and found that even though it felt similar to previous efforts, it was still a great game. The PSP version is essentially a port of the PlayStation 2 version, (which in itself is a large technical achievement) but with a few extras specifically designed for the PSP.
The PSP version of Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix features four exclusive levels which are intertwined into the main story mode on top of the Existing levels. They are set in the cities of Las Vegas, Atlanta, Kyoto and Santa Cruz.
The game itself features two large modes which make it seem like two seperate games. The first, World Destruction Tour, is where players skate around the world creating ultimate destruction. A classic mode is also featured which pays a homage to the Tony Hawk games of the past, with two minutes on the clock with a list of goals to complete.
New multiplayer features have been added for the PSP, with over ten new modes for those who can find another person with a PSP. Should be interesting. Players also have the ability to import their picture onto the PSP via a memory stick and map their face to create their own personalised game character. Definitely a fantastic touch.
After looking closely at Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, it is clear that Activision really haven't had to take too many features out of the game from the PS2 version. It is important to remember that less than two months after THUG2 comes out, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland will see a debut, so to purchase both games you really would need to be a large Tony Hawk fan.
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix will see a release on September 1st, 2005. PALGN will have a review of this title closer to the release date. Check back tomorrow for another PSP preview.
