Worms announced for PSP and DS

PSP News | Back in 2D. Time to dust off the Holy Hand Grenade and exploding sheep.
Good news for those of you who yearn for a new, 2D version of Worms (a group that PALGN is very much a part of): developer Team 17 and publisher THQ have jointly announced that PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS versions of Worms are both in the pipeline.

Each version will boast wireless multiplayer options, whilst more traditional multiplayer and single-player modes will also be present and correct. We've also been informed that there'll be fully 3D backgrounds, zooming, and full-width 16:9 proportions, whilst the DS' touch-screen will be utilised for map-scrolling, stats and weapon controls. And best of all, Team 17 has confirmed that these are not ports of earlier Worms games, but brand new additions to the franchise.

No date has been set for release just yet, though we'll take a wild guess and say early 2006.

Sounds great. I can't recall how many hours of fun I've had multiplaying this game. But I can recall something really freaky happening...

I was playing with my brother and a friend, when we decided to call one of our teams Satan's Army. We filled it with dark personas like Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, my maths teacher etc. When we were playing, and I'm not kidding, the number 666 appeared twice. Once when three worms were next to each other, they all received 6 point of damage. That got us laughing. But when we were checking our stats after the match, one of the stat numbers for Satan's Army (I can't remember which one) was 666... That was really strange.

What are the chances of that!??

Aha, woot, another game on both our lists! icon_biggrin.gif
Always nice when that happens icon_smile.gif

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. I really hope they make good use of the touch screen and make it really easy to access your desired weaponry... this is what will make or break Worms DS, IMHO.
(Also, it'd be nice to see it online-enabled, though I'd be happy with just standard wireless play if GTPod's going to buy it icon_razz.gif)
