Anyway, back on the new games - the two titles will be the latest puzzlers from the team that produced the ace Meteos for the DS and the even acer Lumines on the PSP. There's not an enormous amount of information on either project at this stage, though we do know that the PSP title will be known as Gunpey-R (short for Gunpey-Reverse, we're informed), while the DS will play host to Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse, a name that probably won't survive for any European or Australian release. We're guessing something imaginative, like 'Gunpey DS'.
The original Gunpey was named after the Wonderswan creator Gunpey Yokoi. Readers may be familiar with some of Yokoi's other projects from when he worked at Nintendo - he was the producer of an obscure game series called Metroid, and had a minor hit with a little device he invented called the Game Boy. Yokoi was tragically killed in a car accident in 1997, but his legacy lives on. The game that was named after him involved shifting about squares that contained diagonal lines, the aim being to form horizontal lines from left to right, at which point the new lines would disappear. As in Lumines, we're told there'll be a musical aspect to the gameplay to the DS and PSP versions.
Bandai-Namco is publishing the two new titles, but has yet to confirm a release outside Japan. Given the quality of Meteos and Lumines, we've got all our fingers crossed for a PAL version.
