Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron announced

PSP News | A PSP exclusive.
LucasArts revealed to us today via a press release that the next installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series would be a PSP exclusive.

Entitled Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, the game's story will have players fight in a total of eleven battles which all take place between the evacuation of Yavin 4 and the Battle of Endor. Apparently, the story will also tell of how Han Solo and his team of Rebels bested the Empire at locations such as Ord Mantell, Boz Pity, Korriban, Alderaan and a volcanic planet called Sullust.

There will also be a number of changes made to Renegade Squadron including new customisation options which allow you to upgrade soldier abilities (giving them better armour, speed, health etc) and "directly affect gameplay to an even greater degree than the predetermined character classes of previous Star Wars Battlefront games."

New vehicles that will be appearing in the game include B-wing fighters, TIE Defenders, A5-R Juggernauts, T4-B heavy tanks, Slave I, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter, Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, and the Millennium Falcon. On top of this, there will be new land-based heroes including Admiral Ackbar, Ben Kenobi (Episode IV), IG-88, Asajj Ventress, Kit Fisto and a further fourteen who will return from Battlefront II.

As for multiplayer, up to up to 16 players will be able to play via Infrastructure while the number of players via ad-hoc has been doubled from Battlefront II to 8.

Star Wars fans can expect the game to hit retailer shelves in September this year, in the meantime, first screenshots and concept art can be viewed in our Media Panel.

It just doesn't make any sense to me in anyway that someone is making a PSP exclusive game.

I mean, why not atleast chuck it on the PS2?

Pandemic have made such a mess of the Battlefront sequel that this is the end result. The first Battlefront was great and the second took a step backwards instead of forwards.

Its reassuring to know that Free Radical Design now have the license.
