PSP price drop confirmed for Australia

PSP News | $279.95. Price of platinum titles dropped.
Sony has announced via a press release today that the PSP will now be available for $279.95. They've also dropped the price for certain platinum titles, Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Killzone: Liberation, Loco Roco, Ridge Racer 2 and Moto GP are available for the recommended retail price of $29.95.

Sony also confirmed that the Go!Cam will be available on the 21st of June, 2007 for a recommended retail price of $79.95. Go!Cam offers a built in microphone to ensure continuous audio, the ability to
change the direction of the camera lens vertically by 180 degrees and Go!Edit, an editing software package which allows users to save and edit photos, video and audio clips.

''Go!Cam is an exciting product for PSP owners looking for something new, fun and creative,” said Patrick Lagana, Senior Product Manager for Sony Australia. “Go!Cam quickly converts your PSP in a mini camcorder, allowing you to shoot stills or video quality that’s perfectly suited for email, upload or video editing or even playback on your PlayStation 3. It demonstrates yet again the potential, versatility and fun nature of PSP.''

“The recent launch of PlayStation 3 has had a halo effect on the sales of PSP, the combined impact of today’s price reductions and imminent launch of the Go!Cam will further unleash PSP, making it a ‘must have’ portable system for all entertainment enthusiasts" concluded Lagana.

with the confirmation of God of War coming to PSP, i'm seriously considering getting a PSP now.

there are a few games that had caught my eye in the past, most recently MGS:PO, but GoW is a system seller to me.

I thought about getting a PSP borrowed it from a mate finished MGS PO and don't want one now, I have 4 other consoles to play so yeah PSP is useless to me. Even if it is cheap and can be hacked to bits.

DS needs to have a price drop now and budget software too. No more $69 crap.

The PSP is using the same software strategy as the Playstation 1 which made it so successful. Its good to see. They aren't depending on a few blockbuster titles, rather getting a good selection of games out. The DS is also doing well cause its got a good selection of games too, but in the future i see the PSP surpassing the DS in terms of a good software library, because nintendo just don't come out with games quick enough.

Some great PSP games that I like are

Lumines
Wipeout
Ridge Racer
Puzzle Quest
Pysphon Filter

And then there's the GTA series, lots of sports games that play vastly surperior to the DS versions, racing games, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, MGS.

And games that are still in development - God of War and Final Fantasy Crisis Core are looking great.

So is that a price drop of $30 or am I missing something?

Nintendo rarely drop their software prices.

I bought a gamecube hoping for some cheap software like the playstation, but even player's choice was $50.

My local Big W had a notice on the PSP boxes yesterday claiming they will be selling it for $268

Yes, it's getting more affordable all the time. icon_smile.gif I've always held off getting one because of the price, but it's getting to a decent level now, so I might just get one eventually. It would go very well with my PS3 anyway. icon_smile.gif

Wait, what? I've never paid attention to the PSP. How expensive was it before?

Because, even with the price drop, I didn't realise it was so expensive.

looks like im off to get tekken dark resurrection again, I enjoy tekken, i just get overwhelmed by the depth and difficulty of the moves and it turns into a button masher for me.

The PSP retailed for $329 before the drop to $279 which makes it a drop of $50. Not great maybe, but considering most retailers sold the PSP for $299 anyway (EB Games did) then we should hopefully see it lower. K-Mart are doing it for $268 this week at least.

Too little too late IMO.

Good to see Sony DOING something though.

Finally they are selling platinum titles for a platinum price. I'm just wondering though are all platinum games going to be dropped to the price of $29.95 or just the ones listed? Because if it's all of them then I have a few games to go out and buy.

I have no interest in the PSP but I love how SONY allways sell cheap software, something that Nintendo are still guilty of not doing. Good to see the PSP provding some competition s we don't end up with the bitch Nintendo from the early 90's again.

Its never too late.

In the US 80% of PS2s were sold when the price was dropped to $199.

Thats the equivalent of the price dropping to $299 here.

With the PSP - while its bulky and all, its got some great games on it, not to mention the fact that people can convert videos and take it with them. Great for the train and a bit of variety.

Nah, it's just the base pack. Still good deal though, still cheaper than this price drop

Did you get the media pack?

Me too.

Nintendo games are a rip off. No doubt about that. They seriously need to wise up or the user base can't expand as the majority of consumers are not interested in paying between $60 & $100 for Gamecube games released three or four years ago. This is why PS2 is so attractive. You can grab games for as little as $16 with a fair range at $29.

I now hope PSP also drives down costs of software on portable consoles to the sub $29 price point. Thats how you expand the market!

I don't think Nintendo are trying to sell 4 year old GCN games though.

At launch it sold for $399 (I'm an early adopter... it was a Chrissy present though).

I'm really happy with this news, I might pick up RR2 now... since I loved RR so much. Also really need to buy a bigger Mem Stick Duo.

How the hell did this comment get completely passed over in all those posts? Come on, surely someone should have jumped in with some sort of defensive strike on Nintendo's part.
