THQ announces new Warhammer 40K game for handhelds

PSP News | Heading to the PSP and NDS later this year.
THQ has today announced the development of an all-new Warhammer 40K title heading to the PSP and Nintendo DS later this year. The game, entitled Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command, is described as a turn-based strategy game and will include single and multiplayer modes.

Gamers will play as the Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter as they strive to fight against the Chaos Space Marines over 13 unique missions. The game will also feature a multiplayer mode, allowing anywhere from 2 to 8 players from around the world to team up and go head-to-head with one another in 9 multiplayer missions as either the Imperium or Chaos Space Marines.

The game will also support fully destructible, real-time 3D battlefields, and an array of licensed Warhammer 40,000 weapons, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist.

The Nintendo DS version will utilise the dual-screen and will include stylus support, meanwhile the PSP version will take full advantage of the graphical power of Sony’s handheld console – the first screenshots of the PSP version can be found in the media panel.

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command is scheduled for a late 2007 release.

If they are able to have a fully going proper NDS version, then I might pick it up, I'm into these games lately, and I haerd the PC versions are good.

turn based strategy? I'm all for having more strategy games on the DS as i think the console is seriously lacking in that department (starting to pick more now though admittedly) but when are we gonna see a good real time strategy game released for the system. Still, looking forward to this game and its 'worldwide multiplayer' potential.

While I am already looking forward to this as being a 40k player myself and also the fond memories of glory in death (yes I have an -gage, sad isnt it) I am a little disapointed in only 2 races, and the same races that are in prity much all warhammer videogames.

Lets just hope this game is up to the same level as most of the new warhammer games
