God of War to use PSP's full speed

PSP News | I feel the need, the need for speed!
Cory Barlog, Creative Director of God of War: Chains of Olympus, has stated on the PlayStation Blog that God of War will be one of the first titles to use the newly unlocked 333mhz speed for the PSP.

The requirement for higher speeds on the PSP is most likely being driven by the increased graphics quality the developers are aiming for. How this will impact on battery life and the odds of a PSP 2.0 coming out soon remains to be seen. Consulting the PALGN Magic Ball suggests "outlook not so good" and "most likely," respectively.

We'll apparently be seeing more of the game at E3. Cory Barlog also suggests that there are still some secrets remaining, stating, "I don’t want to ruin the surprise, and we’re all looking forward to those reactions from E3."

More like "God of War to pWn"!

Would anyone know if the psp edition will have any FMV? It's basically my favourite aspect of the game and imo the story really benfits from it because it gives it that epic look and makes it seem like it's on a hollywood budget.

Ive been think about getting a psp for this and a few other games like the PSP castlevania? But the 333mhz and batter life thing concern me. Can you play it of a power point like the DS?

^ Well you gotta charge it somehow, so why not play it while it's being charged.

You can also buy extended capacity batteries for the PSP, which is fantastic for up-time but (obviosuly) adds to the charge time. I'm not sure about more modern ones, but the one I got a fair while back sticks out of the unit a fair bit (double the depth of the normal batteries) which makes many carry-cases useless.

Damed good news about GoW, although to expect anything but the best from it would be a mistake icon_smile.gif

1 hour gaming on the run, coming to a PSP near you.

Man, the battery life is always crap, and running at this speed is certainly going to knock off an hour of play.

Thats a bit negative. Why don't you wait until its released first and see what the developers do?

Look at God of War 1 and God of War 2 - the PS2 has 32MB of video ram and look how much juice they got out of the PS2. That is friggin nuts.

While the increased clock speed will no doubt decrease the battery life, its also the UMD spinning that kills the battery, so if they design it properly, it will run well.

I don't have any problems with battery life on my PSP. I get about 3-5 hours off a single charge, and carry a spare. 6-10 is about what you get out of the DS.

If you're REALLY concerned, you can get larger capacity batteries for about $30. 2 of those, and you'd be running in the 10-20 hour range.

And yes, you can do the same with a DS, provided you've got the necessary screwdriver.

i got a larger capacity battery off ebay for $5 gives me about 10 hours of use

Well the DS Lite gives you an option to tone down the brightness so you can get 10-15 hours out of a charge (lowest setting). I have it on the 2nd highests which yeilds from 6-8 hours. I get about 3 hours with the PSP playing a game.

I'm just saying that the PSP is a portable machine, if you can get only 1-2 hours gaming out of it without a charge then whats the point? Feels like technology is going backwards. No doubt the PSP2 will have this new clock speed in mind and have a decent battery upgrade to complement. I just hope they don't charge us another $430 for the PSP2. I certainly will be saying no thanks if that's the case.

I'm sure GoW on the PSP will be great however and is just what the DR ordered with the machine.

I get around 4-5 hours on my mate's PSP, I think that's fine enough for it.

I don't know what you're all on about but I get 7h with the lowest brightness setting..

All this talk about the full speed, does this mean there is a possibility of running somewhat of a San Andreas Stories??, besides the fact that there may or may not be enough room on the UMD. They could always double layer or use multi-disc, they did well to fit it on the ps2 discs.

You can do that on the PSP. I rarely do, though. The PSP at its lowest brightness setting and the original DS (or a DS Lite at its lowest setting) just aren't bright enough if you're outside.

To be honest, if there is a PSP redesign coming, I'd be more interested in a screen with a higher refresh rate and less smearing than any increase in battery life.

I run Homebrew with the 333mhz clock and it goes at about 6-8 hours for me. I barely see the battery hit tbh.

It won't be that bad methinks.

Agreed, I run games you lose the odd 30 mins compared to before but not much in my opinion. Either way I dont think fair to compare both handhelds.
