Halo Wars to spread cross-platform?

360 Rumour | PCs join Xbox 360s in strategic multiplayer harmony.
With rarely a game providing cross-platform multiplayer play, it's heartening to hear that Microsoft and Ensemble Studio's upcoming real-time strategy, Halo Wars, may very well be embracing such a concept.

According to The Angry Pixel and its "verbal diarrhoea" diagnosed contact within Microsoft, Halo Wars will indeed be supporting cross-platform capabilities between Xbox 360s and Windows PCs.

Of course, such news only goes to further reveal the previously unheard of possibility that Halo Wars is in development for the PC, in the process netting yet another Microsoft in-house developed Xbox 360 exclusive in the platform's favour. While it's unknown whether both versions of Halo Wars will see a simultaneous release, The Angry Pixel's ramblings regale us with some of the possible cross-platform gameplay features to come -- most notably including co-operative play between platforms, along with custom levels that can be designed on a PC and played with Xbox 360 users.

With the PC version apparently to be officially announced at next month's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, we hope either version of Halo Wars and its cross-platform gameplay receive a far more positive reception than a certain other cursed Microsoft Game Studios branded title that attempted to do the very same.

Well if this is true, I think I'll have to grab the PC version, that way I'll have more time to play it.

I'll be getting PC version if any just to show all the console FPS n00bs how much they suck compared to KB/Mouse players icon_wink.gif
Though if it's anything like quake wars then the console players will have the advantage in the vehicles icon_sad.gif

^ You're in for a shock then, as Halo Wars is a Real Time Tactical game not a First Person Shooter.

^SHHH!!! Not too loud!!

We've been keeping him in the dark for a while now, just so that when the release date comes, he can have a fun time trying to "shoot" the "console FPS n00bs", and then realise he has no idea what is going on.

On a more serious note, I do wonder how they will make playing an RTS by controller anywhere near as effective as it is with KB/M. Worked ok for BFME2, I guess, so I'm not too worried, just curious.
