60GB Xbox 360 in stores today

360 News | Price still $499.
The newly revised Xbox 360 Pro console will be hitting Australian retailers today, following on from its recent release in Europe and North America.

News of the updated SKU spread last month, with the most obvious change being more hard drive space - 60GB of it, to be precise. That's 40 more than the old Pro console, for those playing at home.

The price of the new Pro console won't change, with it still coming in at a recommended retail price of $499. The unit still comes with all the stuff in the old model - headset, ethernet cable, HD AV cable and, of course, a controller. The pricing of the Arcade and Elite bundles won't change either, remaining at $349 and $649 respectively.

“Xbox 360 offers the some of the best interactive home entertainment available in Australia and now consumers have three times the storage space to manage the rich content available on Xbox Live,” boasted Jeremy Hinton, Xbox marketing person.

Are you sure it comes with a headset? All previous Pro's here came with the media remote instead.

Nice price though, I would be surprised if anyone will still buy the elites, $150 more for 60GB! What a rip.

I can't imagine this having any impact in Australia. One of the main reasons to get a new HDD is to download movies and stuff, and they're not even available in Australia.

I guess if people were going to do the install thing.

Well, the Elite does come with a HDMI cable aswell, they aren't very cheap in themselves, and the fact they are black, allowing it to match alot of home theatre gear out there.

HDMI cables are cheap as chips.

Unless you're dumb.

A good HDMI cable can be bought for $20 (from the right place) and so the Elite is hardly a good buy in it's current form. A pricing change or spec change will be needed for it to be considered by anyone.

anywho, i think they really will struggle to sell the eilite, i mean all it has more storage but not many people here in the wonderful land of OZ seems to be utilizing it anyway...oh and its black icon_wink.gif

I bought an Elite when they came out because 20gig just isn't enough space unless you want to be constantly deleting stuff.

But if they had the 60gig version back then I probably would have gone for that.

I still lubs my black beast anyway.

The prices here need to be switched around, before someone goes out looking for a $349 Elite icon_razz.gif

A good HDMI cable can be had for $12. But then you'll have to fork out cash for the audio break out thing so you can use Optical Out. That's where the Elite comes into function.

I just bought a HDMI cable from www.ezyhd.com.

They are very cheap and work great. Have a look at the feedback section for more comments from other happy customers.

I think it'll be a little bit before 60gb 360s are actually in stores as I was in EB, JB & GAME today and none of them had a 60gb 360 in stock and didn't know when they were getting any.

now keep an eye out for any clearance sales on the 20gb model as has happened overseas.

I'm also expecting they'll probably drop the price again for christmas, when the wii is likely to get it's first price drop.

if you want to use HDMI and Optical out, all you need to do is remove the plastic case on your component cable, you will then be able to have both plugged in at the same time.

i think that the larger storage is to prepare for the ability to install games onto the hdd which i think comes with the next major update.

Or alternatively the movie and tv service we've been denied in this country for far too long. That and the game install thing.

Extra storage is still extra storage, even if we can't download movies. I am curious though as to how big the average save file is for Xbox 360 games. The reason I am curious is that I was considering buying an Xbox Arcade, but just how many save files can a 256MB hold? Not too many I would image, and I guess you can forget about DLC of any kind.
