New achievements added to Halo 3

360 News | Bungie confirms the rumours.
Halo 3 developer Bungie has confirmed that there is truth to the rumours that the company plans to add a slew of new achievements to Halo 3's campaign and multiplayer modes.

The latest achievements come as part of the second 'Title Update' for the Xbox 360 exclusive shooter. The update will also include many "under-the-hood changes," a new type of ban for those that like to stir up trouble in multiplayer, and a per-playlist ranking of player skill when the update arrives later this month.

Bungie's Luke Smith hinted that "these aren't the only achievements we're adding," referring to another batch of new achievements that were listed at last week's Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). "But without proper context, there's not a whole lot else we're going to say," Smith coyly added.

Below is a partial list of the new achievements which will be available for unlock via the game's campaign mode and through playing the Legendary multiplayer maps.

  • Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) – Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.

  • Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) – Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.

  • Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.

  • Double Double (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.

  • Poor Yorick (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 Oddball melee kills during any ranked or social match.

  • Came…From…Behind (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 assassinations during any ranked or social match.

  • Defend This (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.

  • Flag Dropped (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.

  • Road Rage (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 5 Warthog chaingun kills during any ranked or social match.

  • Look Both Ways (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a Splatter Spree during any ranked or social match.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information when the latest Halo 3 patches itself onto your Xbox 360 later this month.

Obviously trying to push more Legendary map pack sales, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

I might be having a blonde moment, but can anyone explain this to me? I get most of it, but it's the last bit that I'm unsure of...

'Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.'

So after the 25th of September (ie the 1 year anniversary of Halo 3 and my brother and his fiance going out! I'll never forget that moment now...), we have to complete Halo(3?) with three mates over LIVE (not on the same box) with the Iron skull switched on (so if one of you dies, everyone goes back to the start of the last checkpoint again) and everyone has to be in Ghosts...

The Ghosts bit is what I don't understand... I thought there were nothing but Warthogs to finish the game in... Unless the update adds in Ghosts?
And you get ZERO points for doing all that? WTF?

I cant see myself going back to Halo, even though i love the game's multiplayer... Stupid October and it's stupidly awesome games coming out... Plus, there's Far Cry 2 (+ map editor), Saints Row 2 and Gears 2 to play online... Halo's gonna have to wait until next year, when/if Gears gets boring...
