Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sells 1.5 million units

360 News | The fastest selling Star Wars game of all time.
LucasArts has sent out a press release today stating that the recently released Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has already sold more than 1.5 million units worldwide. The milestone number also makes The Force Unleashed the fastest selling Star Wars game and LucasArts game of all time.

According to LucasArts, the figures are based on the first five days of sales across all platforms. More than 4.3 million units were initially allocated for the game’s launch, but since then demand has warranted the distribution of additional stock.

For those that missed our review earlier in the week, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Players take on the role of Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, and discover new revelations such as how the Rebel Alliance was formed and Darth Vader’s history.

"The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games," said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. "We’re blown away by the response to the game."

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was released in Australia on September 17th and is available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2 and PSP consoles. Click here to check out our review.

most places wouldnt return game without fault, so it would only be trades. They will also still be selling new copies to people like me =)

... and no, that wouldnt be included in the count.

They could have doubled that if they had just abandoned the stupid Secret Apprentice idea and let us play as Darth Vader all the way through. They'd have had to shell out for James Earl Jones, of course, because the guy they have imitating him in the game is the worst voice actor I've ever heard, but it would have been worth it. Darth Vader makes everything better.

I would like to kindly disagree. Because of the amount of hype this game has gotten over the past few months it was always going to sell well especially amongst the SW fans. The lightsaber action and the awesomeness of its Euphoria engine as some of its selling point, this game has always been destined to sell well.

I mean, lightsaber action awesome. Whether your are Darth Vader or not. As long as its well implemented.

i understand the point about using Vader exclusively, vs using this new character, and i initially thought the same thing, but having now played it, i definitely see that i don't think the game would be as good using only Vader.

for starters, i didn't like using Vader's fastest speed in the prologue of this game. and while it's cool to stalk through a single level, it would get tedious having only walk for the entire game, and having an outright run would suck for the opposite reason.
basically Vader simply isn't athletic enough to pull off being a full character in a game.

but then, i think his appearance (and athleticism) in Soul Calibur 4 is bordering on blasphemous.

don't get me wrong, it's awesome in theory to be Vader, but i can't help think i'd be much more disappointed with any title that attempts to do it.

what a stupid comment.

To paraphrase Mick Foley, George Lucas could crap in a can and it'd sell like hotcakes...

(Not saying the game is a turd in a can, but the demo was a bit disappointing; I have to admit I have ordered the game from the US, since it's ~$60, much more reasonable...)

I haven't had the chance to buy and return my copy yet, sorry.

For the casual gamer Force Unleashed hits the nail on the head. Simple controls, pick up and play gameplay, not to much depth to get lost in, extremely well known IP. For the hardcore its shallow although fun at times. There's just better games to save your pennies for at this time of year, by all means hire this game and have a blast for a weekend with it.
