Fable 2 to have online co-op at launch

360 News | Patch will be available on launch day.
Lionhead has confirmed that Fable 2 will actually have online co-operative play come launch day.

The company recently admitted that the game disc wouldn't have online co-op out of the box, a highly touted feature of the game that would allow players to enter other player's worlds online. This was put down to it requiring additional polish, but Lionhead said that a patch enabling the feature wouldn't be far off. As it turns out, it was a whole lot of fuss over nothing, as it seems that the Lionhead boffins have managed to get it ready for a day one release.

"Remember a couple of days ago (or was it a week?) where on a blog it was mentioned that Fable 2 would be shipping 'without' online co-op? And remember we said we were busting our balls to get it ready in time for a 'Day One' release? Well - news folks! It looks like we've done it," said a company blog post. "Taken into account we don't fail certification."

Fable 2 is due for an Australian release on the 23rd of October. If you've never heard of it, you should have a look at our preview.

Wonderful, it's great to see that even though they break promises, they patch them up again. :/

Sorry for my scepticism, but Molyneux is doing to this game what Lucas has done to Indiana Jones. That is, we know from Fable that he has a foible for over promising, under delivering, and general egotism, but we eat it up anyway because, I suppose, the games are still pretty good. They're just not the world-saving, RPG-blitzing wonders that we expect them to be.

Anyhow, it certainly says something about the man that he can muck up so many times and still be one of the best known and greatest loved names in the gaming world. Again, Fable was lots of fun, and Fable 2 will be as well, but the series is the very definition of overhype.
