Lips gets localised

360 News | Eight Aussie artists appear in local version of the game.
While we unveiled the game's full track list last week, a new week has more more news in the karaoke stylings of Lips, with eight Aussie acts getting the nod to appear in the local version of the title.

Aussie vocalists will be able to belt out the tunes of favourite artists such as Silverchair, Kylie Minogue and Missy Higgins. Even the oldies will get a kick out of Lips as players will be able to perform a couple of numbers from classic acts such as Men At Work, Cold Chisel and John Farnham, who supplies his signature tune "You're The Voice."

On top of the already revealed international tracklist, the game will the music of these top Australian artists:
  • Cold Chisel - "Khe Sahn"
  • John Farnham - "You're The Voice"
  • Kylie Minogue - "Love At First Sight"
  • Men At Work - "Be Good Johnny"
  • Missy Higgins - "Scar"
  • Olivia Newton-John - "Magic"
  • Shannon Noll- "Shine"
  • Silverchair - "Straight Lines"

Oh baby, Khe Sahn!
Does it come with a half-drunk schooner of VB with a cigarette butt in it?

straight lines?
you cant be serious?

try. greatest view, or anything from diorama, but i suppose most people don't know those songs and straight lines was the rubbish one that they had to hear.

Hmm... i reckon they should add something from frogstomp. Go back to their routes. Maybe the song about the water (got a brainfreeze and cant remember the title)

These two will get lots of play at my house, and if you know any white women between the ages of 25 and 30 you'll be hearing Missy Higgins more than you'd like, but out of the whole of Kylie's 20-year back catalogue was that the best they could do?

Of course, we shouldn't get too hung up on the setlist present on the actual physical disc, serving as it does more as a sort of preloaded starter pack to tide you over until you've picked out the particular DLC packs that contain the tracks you really want.

Supports external music, the world is happy again. Apparently iNiS is working on a solution to add lyric support to custom songs too (woo).

What will suck is having three microphones sitting around supposing I get GHWT as well. Damn peripherals.

What the world wants to know, of course, is the absolute minimum set of instruments, game discs and microphones needed to make Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Lips happen on the one console without unnecessary duplication of function.

It seems unlikely that any of the corporations involved will put out a statement other than to say "Good luck with that!" so I suppose we'll have to wait for the retail release and let early adopters do the beta testing.

Yeah not close to convincing me to get this. I was going to get this BEFORE the track lists came out. The lists are bad enough to make me sure enough to spend my cash elsewhere.

My idea of Karaoke is well know songs being messed up by people with a few too many drinks in them. Most of these songs aren't well known. I'll use the singing parts of GHWT and RB instead.

how about some SUNK LOTO or maybe even PARKWAY DRIVE??

oh, of coarse not, "its not commercial"

Pffft

The problem with the songs on Lips is that they cover too many different genres. By attempting to please everyone, they are hardly pleasing anyone.
At least with singstar they attempt to categorise it a bit.

That's a really good point.

Also @ Slipvayne21, I'm sure you feel discouraged because the songs in the line-up aren't really your thing; while Parkway and Sunk Loto aren't commercial, they also aren't well known to a lot of people. I can't really fault a video game for wanting to try to include everyone...

and to be honest, who can really sing a Parkway song anyway?

i agree.

i just had a look through the complete list of songs (which are available on different versions of lips depending on country) and if all the songs are available for DLC then it would be ok because there are alot of songs i like.. they just arent all on the one version

Hate to break it to you, but Parkway Drive is commercial or at least mainstream.

Oh really, so you telling me i could walk up to lets say 100 random people, flash a parkway album at them and theyd would know what the hell im on about, no way !! not evan a minimum of 20 out of the 100.

Just because your circle of friends know what it is doesnt mean its mainstream.

Hell, i wish they were, so we could all wake up the the sound of TALENT (people that ACTUALLY PLAY the intruments), on the weekends instead of the same useless britney spears vidoes

In closing, Great game. Not for myself though.

yea, but of all the boatload of silverchair songs, daniel johns voice is pristine in Straight Lines... a second choice for a silverchair song with a good vocal track would be The Greatest View

but then again, there's that singstar game with "Tomorrow" on it

To be honest though, I'm not disappointed by the choices, i think they're very good songs to test your vocal skills with... but they also seem pretty... generic?

"You're The Voice" and "Khe Sahn" are excellent choices but they also seem like they HAVE to be on it... whether that's a good thing or not, you decide

but im neither disappointed nor excited by this local tracklist

EDIT: would be awesome to have Wolfmother's "Dimension" purely so you have to scream the intro icon_razz.gif

or including A Sound Mind... awesome vocalist

How the hell are you meant to sing anything by Missy Higgins?

Well good luck if you're an immigrant - it must be sung/spoken with a strong Aussie accent!

Depends on what circles you associate with. Anyone under the age of 25 would know them...

My mum knows who they are and she only listens to the radio (not Triple J). Hell I doubt most of my friends would know of them either.
