Meteos Wars for XBLA this Wednesday

360 News | About time.
Q Entertainment has announced that galatic puzzler Meteos Wars will surface on Xbox Live this Wednesday.

Meteos Wars - which missed its original October release for reasons that remain a mystery - is the second game in the Meteos series. The first game appeared on the Nintendo DS in 2005 and was rather good, to say the least.

The gist of the game is to create vertical or horizontal rows of three matching blocks, which will then attempt to rocket out of the screen, allowing for more blocks to fall. Of course, the game tries to throw spanners in the works by increasing the tempo as well as doing other devious little things, so, unsurprisingly, it's harder than it sounds. There are twenty different planets to puzzle on, as well as new techniques not seen in the DS versions.

Meteos Wars will cost 800 MS points, and come with multiplayer options both locally and over Xbox Live.

Is there any difference between Meteos and Meteros Wars? They sound almost identical, maybe just differnet maps and tunes?

Sweet! Loved Meteos on DS, although I never owned a copy.

PowerUp is also out tomorrow for 800 MS points.

Um. I'm still not convinced Meteos without a touchscreen is a good idea.

^ I reckon that's only because it's happened this way around though. My first experience playing Tetris Attack (or that general style of Tetris) was on DS and I can't imagine playing without touch, but it seemed to do pretty well between now and the SNES days. If Meteos was on consoles first, people would have mastered it in the same way.

No doubt it'll be a harder game, but maybe that's a good thing; I always got tired of constantly beating Hyper/Quin on DS (ooooooo). icon_razz.gif

My wife bought this last night. It's very similar to the DS game, with 3d backgrounds and Meat hats for your little avatar guy.

The online seems to have horrible lag though, pretty dodgy implementation it seems.

Not possible. You can even play it on DS using standard controls, and they're terribly slow. It's like saying that if FPS games originated on consoles then the keyboard/mouse combo would be the same or worse.

I really like the game, even though it's almost the exact same game I've had on DS since it came out. It is kinda hard adjusting to playing at about one 4th the speed of the DS game, but I'll live. Haven't had any luck getting online matches though =/

But that's not what I'm saying, I'm saying when the only option is to use dpad/analogue controls, people would have no choice but to master it. Touch controls coming out later would add to it and make it easier, hence my example of Tetris Attack which did work in that way.

I played this last night. OH DEAR THAT WAS PAINFUL. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it appears that the only way you can move blocks is with one button to push it up and another button to push it down, instead of holding in a button and moving it with the analog stick. The latter was my natural instinct. The former made me turn the game off.

Time to pull the DS out again methinks.
