Fallout movie, television series coming?

360 News | Nuclear apocalypse coming to a screen near you.
Bethesda Softworks, developer of last year's rather good post-apocalyptic title Fallout 3, has sneakily filed for two trademarks at the US Patent and Trademark Office, as spotted by Joystiq.

One of the two patents is for use of the Fallout name in the context of "entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program." The other is for use of the name in the context of "motion picture films about a post-nuclear apocalyptic world." In other words, Bethesda appears to be thinking about potentially engineering a Fallout television series, a Fallout film, or perhaps even both.

Given the recent news of other videogame titles making their way to the big screen, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Fallout making its own cinematic appearance. Let's hope that the ongoing trend of terrible game-to-film conversions (and film-to-game while we're at it) will end sooner rather than later.

seeing this as a movie would be pretty cool, thou it'll have to adhere to the 50's them and not try to do what they did to dragonball z *shudders*

even podcasts/videos with fallout themed discussion/acting would be neat.

No, get Eastwood to direct! Everything he touches turns into gold.

It aired on 10HD Thursday nights (their Sci-Fi time slot) about a year before it became OneHD.

And it's been on Sci-Fi as well.

I heard Bethesda and Interplay are in a tiff about the Fallout MMO due to licensing issues, so I wonder if a TV / movie incarnation would face the same problem..?

It would be an interesting watch but... Things like this don't really turn out well.

I'd rather watch the movie than play the game (waits for a massive wave of negs). But seriously, i love the idea and the story-telling aspects of this game. I have however, found it impossible to engage myself into the game for any considerable amount of time. This gen, i have literally finished all the story driven games worth their weight, each of course only requiring around the 12-20 hour worth of imput. I feel with Fallout 3 completely overwhelmed by what is on offer. With my gaming time literally being retricted to a few hours here and there with some serious Sunday sessions. Fallout 3 just dosn't suit my gaming lifestyle, its a shame, cause ever since the trailer, i had been hanging to get my teeth stuck into this epic. I guess that's the difference between a hardcore and casual gamer. icon_smile.gif

it would never work, the world is too dark with a sense of irony. America can't do that do well when it comes to film

TV show could be interesting. Each episode a different mission.

They should then tie it into the Foxtel remove so you can choose with the red button whether you want to blow the town to ****, or tell the sheriff.

It would need to be made by HBO, with an MA to R minimum with a truck load of violence.
