Broken Steel DLC priced, dated

360 News | If it IS broken, DO fix it.
Bethesda has announced a date and price for the third pack of downloadable content for their apocalyptic opus Fallout 3, this one entitled Broken Steel.

The date for release has been set as May 5, with a price of 800 Microsoft points.

The Broken Steel pack makes some quite significant changes to the overall Fallout 3 experience. The game's original ending has been reworked so as to allow the Broken Steel quests to extend the main story. Previously, finishing the main quest meant finishing the game entirely, but players will now be able to continue playing indefinitely beyond the main quest after downloading Broken Steel.

To further accomodate these changes, the level cap has been raised from 20 to 30, meaning you'll have to slay many more Super Mutants in order to max out your character.

The DLC adds six additional achievements to Fallout 3, collectively worth 150 Gamerscore points. This brings the game's total to 1350 points.

Broken Steel will be available for both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Fallout 3. Owners of the PlayStation 3 version will unfortunately miss out.

There will also be new baddies and weapons so I hear.

I feel for the PS3 owners...

I should start playing it on the PC again to gain those achievments.

I could almost do without the extra content as such, but limiting PS3 owners to level 20 and restricting them from continuing after the final quest borders on bethesda just being a**holes.

What will it cost for PC?

again...us ps3 owners miss out. i regret buying this game now.

Well one thing is for sure, as a PS3 owner, I will not be buying the next version of Fallout if they pull that exclusive no DLC crap again. They could of at least given us access to the mods from the SDK

Sorry PS3 users, but this is what we pay our Gold XBL subscription for.

What sort of logic is that? You do realise that silver XBL users also have access to the same content?

There are a few holes in the "GOLD gets this and that" benefit statement.

1. PC owners get access to the DLC content as well and don't pay for Live
2. You pay for GOLD Live and then still have to pay for the content

What sort of logic is that? Just because someone doesn't pay tax doesn't mean they don't have access to roads.

Fact is, Microsoft uses the money they get from subscription fees (amongst other XBL related purchases) to fund exclusive deals for DLC to make Xbox the more appealing alternative.

Argument is null and void in the face of the fact that it's available for PC too.

I'd also like to know of any known exclusive DLC deals apart from the GTA4 deals that Microsoft made. Perhaps I've lost track. Have I?

Tombraider Underworld, Fallout 3 and GTA IV to my knowledge are the multiplatform games with DLC not going to the PS3, with GTA IV being the only one limited to the 360.

But yeh, we both could have lost track, there were a few rumours floating around that the ps3 would get either exclusive DLC for GTA IV or the 360 DLC after an exclusive period or something.

It's the exact same reasoning that Silver can get it too. Windows Live/Xbox Live...

and on the flipside, Mirror's Edge DLC is limited to PSN, and only the PS3 version of Bioshock got the challenge rooms.

works both ways...

Mirror's Edge DLC came to 360, PS3 users just got one extra map (for a total of 8) for free.

And Bioshock..well..360 got the entire GAME a year before PS3...

both irrelevant - there's still content for both that are exclusive to PSN.

Both entirely relevant to my point, Sony would have purchased the exclusive DLC with revenue made by sales on the PSN (amongst other revenue streams).

Microsoft on the other hand can afford to purchase large DLC additions due to the additional revenue gained by their XBL Gold subscription.

No they can afford it due to being worth billions of dollars and having money to spare.

So you pay a fee to allow you to buy things, so those who don't pay can't buy them? Riiight...

Never mind the technical reasons behind it. No, obviously Microsoft can afford to buy the internet and everything in it.

Nothing amuses me more than people who know nothing about the games industry making outlandish claims that MS money is the only reason anything happens.

Not at all, since the company that made the operating system you're using the play the game is...?

Wether Xbox 360 or PC, "at least it isn't on PS3". Microsoft benefit from both PC and 360 gaming...

Doesn't matter what it's being released on if you ask me. Either you can or can't get it; if not tough cookies. Just stop whining and try to enjoy what you've got in the game.
Personally I'm looking forward to this; I haven't finished Fallout 3 yet; so this should be interesting, given it's also one of my favorite titles on the 360.
Already got The Pitt and Operation Anchorage; and have liked what it did for the game.

Our gaming pleasure should be enhanced by the competition between the platform holders Sony, Ninty, MS and now Apple.

A game being exclusive to a platform is fair, that's the selling point of each platform, its unique games and features.

No advantage should be given to a select group of gamers on a multiplatform game.
