Magnacarta 2 coming to Australia

360 News | More RPG love for the Xbox 360.
Namco-Bandai has announced that upcoming RPG Maganacarta 2 will be getting an Australian release, exclusively on the Xbox 360.

Developed by Softmax, Magnacarta 2 is a follow up to the PS2 RPG Magnacarta: Tears of Blood and will take place in the Lanzheim Continent, with war and conflict being the main theme. The game will be powered by the Unreal 3 engine and feature artwork by Korean artist Hyung-Tae Kim.

The game will feature a battle system which combines strategic turn-based battles and real-time action gameplay and will allow a seamless transition between exploration and battle modes, as well as a full 3D camera and will allow gamers to pre-assign attributes for each AI character and easily switch control between all the characters at any time. Characters within the game will be able to use a variety of different weapons and fighting styles, as well as a number of different skills and special moves.

The game is set for release in the third quarter of 2009.

I liked the 'look' of the first one. The story seemed to be good and the characters well developed. Unfortunately the combat system became its critical failure (for me).

I find I tend to play most RPG's late into the late, when my hand-eye-circle-x-square coordination is less than a blind-dead-sloth. Thus I found I couldn't get much further than a couple of hours into the game without, smashing my face against the controllers. Casting the disc out of the console in exchnage for something a little more user friendly, (Movie?).

My only hope is that these same issues are not introduced into the second incarnation.

As for the console jump, I am not a fan of the 360. At all. So I am a bit disapointed. But if the game gets good enough reviews then I'll just have to dust off the old red ring box.

I thought the fact that the xbox gets most rpg's was old news. Anyway i doubt this game will be any good, but it might keep me entertained until ff comes out.

Considering the first Magnacarta was quite lacklustre (and the biggest case of gaming buyer's remorse I've ever had), I will not be losing any sleep over the exclusivity issue. Though to be honest, the only exclusive RPG's PS3 owner should be jealous of are Lost Odyssey and Star Ocean.

That's mainly for the fact LO has several Shadow Hearts elements (a PS2 series whose game developers contributed to LO), while Star Ocean was a prominent RPG on the PSOne/PS2 (although the first SO was on the SNES).

This is not an attack on the quality of 360 RPG's, but a statement of RPG's in general for this current generation of consoles. Most of them have been failry disappointing, to say the least. The haven for RPGs is still the last-gen PS2, especially if you like the Megami Tensen range.

Being a Glay fan, I was well aware of the game's existance. However, my sole knowledge extended to the fact that the song's name was "Synchronicity", and that I wouldn't need to play the game to hear the song.

In other words, this game looks kinda lacklustre. RPGs (from both sides of the pond) are a dime a dozen (like FPSs) - the difference is you're doing to invest a lot more of your time with an RPG. Thus, why I'd only suggest purchasing the really A-grade ones, unless you're a fan of a certain branding/series/franchise.

In this case, I don't see Magna Carta falling under any of those trees in-particular, especially in Australia. For memory the series is based on a TV series, or vice-verca?

Ah well. Another game making it to Australia. I guess that's always a good thing, regardless of how divided its fan-base is, right? icon_biggrin.gif
