New DLC hitting Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360

360 News | Episode two: The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Rockstar Games has announced that the second episode of downloadable content is on its way for Grand Theft Auto IV later this year, still exclusive to the Xbox 360.

The new episode follows this year’s earlier instalment, The Lost and Damned, also released exclusively for the 360. The Ballad of Gay Tony introduces street hoodlum Luis Lopez, as he works under legendary entertainment entrepreneur Tony Prince.

"Liberty City is the most vibrant game world we've created yet. The episodic structure has allowed us to interweave stories, gameplay and atmosphere in a whole new way," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative. This episode's focus on high-end night life contrasts with the biker gangs portrayed in The Lost and Damned, whilst giving us a lot of new gameplay possibilities."'

The previous chapter The Lost and Damned and the upcoming Ballad of Gay Tony will also be featured on a disc under the name of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. Priced at US $39.99, this stand alone pack will not require the original GTA IV to play.

The Ballad of Gay Tony will be released on Xbox Live later this year for 1600 Microsoft Points and the downloadable version requires players to have GTA 4.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the retail disc. L&D will either be an edited version, there is no way it would be classified for local release in it's current form, or not released in this country through retail stores. Either way I'm glad I have the non-edited version to play.

I will be interested to see the new contend, assuming it is of similar quality to L&D I will be downloading it.

Uh... Lost and the Damned is available in stores. It's clearly been classified otherwise they wouldn't be able to release it as DLC on the Australian store. On top of that our editted version has had the censored content patched back into the game.

And I didn't like previous GTA's but love GTA 4. I just love euphoria and how the cars handle. It makes me compare every other sandbox game to it and they all pale in comparison. Even Saints Row 2 made me want to play GTA 4.
Driving around was one of the few things I enjoyed in GTAIV.To me, playing SR2 makes it even more apparent how boring GTAIV was.

But there is one other thing I miss about GTAIV, that was just roaming around the city exploring and just watching pedestrians live their lives.

Hmmm, will probably re-egnite my interest in GTA IV and inspire me to actually pick up L&D too.

World Of Warcraft was on sale for years without classification. Also you are only buying a download code in the retail copy of L&D, the file which you download is not classified or edited, which is why you are able to move the camera around the car while you are employing the prostitute.

All games and DLC on XBLA, Wiiware and PSN have to be fully rated by the OFLC before they're allowed to be sold on the respective online store. So Lost and the Damned has already been rated and was given an MA15+ rating, also GTA4 on 360 and PS2 was uncensored by Rockstar after the PC version got through the ratings system unedited.

If this doesn't come to PS3, I might pick up the disc based version. Is there no slow down on the 360 version? I heard the PS3 has slowdown but the 360 version doesn't. I had like 10 cops chasing me, I got stuck so they were all around me and the FPS was ridiculously low, happens when a lot of cops are on screen.
Sambo I have both versions and I have experienced slow down on both versions. Hope this helps.

World of Warcraft is a completely different kettle of fish, it's an online only title which it's difficult for a developer to ascertain what players are going to say and do in an online environment, it's why all multiplayer titles have the disclaimer at the beginning "game play may vary during online play". WoW actually changed this rule if I remember correctly because it had gone so long unclassified they changed the rules.

DLC is exactly the same as any retail game though, especially in the case of single player content, the information is there, it's just a matter of sending a content sheet across with a recommendation for rating.

Besides that, it's a moot point anyway, all GTA4 copies are now uncensored due to the PC version passing classification without cuts.

The PS3 version isn't unfortunately.

Wow... so GTA4 owners on PS3 are just getting the shaft from all directions, huh?

Yeah, no sex for us icon_razz.gif. I wish it was uncensored, just because I don't like censored games.

These 360 exclusives can be really irritating. I was stupid enough to purchase the PS3 version just to test out the shiny PS3 I bought a month before release. That said, I am not overly fussed with GTA4 and its DLC, its a game I could take or leave. But still, I would atleast like the option of trying it out.

It had been anounced that there would be 360 exclusive DLC for ages before the game came out, so kinda your own fault there (Unless you don't own a 360 then yeah you're getting shafted but hey, I wanna play infamous and can't so you win some you lose some icon_smile.gif

After playing Saints Row 2 I tried going back and playing GTA 4 and found that I just couldn't be arsed, yeah it has a great immersive world but it's at the expense of actually having fun stuff to do.

I haven't got L&D yet, mainly cause I didn't give a **** about the bikey stuff, this one seems a lot more interesting to me

^ furthermore, it makes no difference that it's DLC or retail, all content has to be reviewed for Australia, and the original, uncensored version of TLAD was what was submitted, and passed.
look at the content on XBLA (and PSN, and the Nintendo store) and you'll see it all has OFLC ratings.

the whole thing with WoW was completely wrong anyway. it exists in some blindspot of current law where exclusively online games don't require classification. so theoretically, if Rockstar were ever to make GTA MMO, with all the violence, sex and drug use we'd expect from a GTA title, then it too, would exist in this blind spot.

of course i reckon a GTA MMO would be just the catalyst required for the act to get a review...

I thought they amended it already because of WoW? Guess not. Well, I at least remember a massive thing about it sometime last year where people were discussing the topic ad nauseum.
i'm not sure if the hole has been patched or not, but last i heard, MMO's don't fit the definition of a game according to the OFLC as it's "only" software to access the game, not the game itself. (or some equally stupid bulls**t.)

regardless, at present no MMO needs classifying by our laws. not WoW, not LOTRO, not EQ2, not WAR.

actually the last on that list is interesting - i can't really remember when the "WoW is illegal" scandal started, before or after WAR released, but that could be a good test of whether the loophole was tightened, or not.

anyway, point is that the whole deal with this story has nothing to do with GTA4 and it's episodes, since DLC for a game still requires classifying.

apparently, the rules are something like this:
Standalone game (ie: no online component) - a game, requires classifying.
Mixed format game (ie: single player, and online component) - a game, requires classifying.
Online game (ie: no single player, must be connected to the internet to play) - not a game, does not require classifying.

Does Team Fortress 2 have a rating, or did that have play with bots as an option?

I'm honestly suprised that age of conan didn't cause a **** storm with the no rating thing considering all the blood and nudity and **** in it.
