Pre-E3 2009: Nier coming from Square Enix

360 News | Action adventure for the 360 and PS3.
Over the weekend, Japanese software company Square Enix announced the existence of Neir, a brand new action adventure game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Developer Cavia will be the ones responsible for creating the game, which looks rather gory at this point. Apparently, the action will take place "in a crumbling world, plagued by disease and dark, unrecognisable creatures". Players will take control of Nier - hence the title, we'd wager - as he goes around slaughtering the aforementioned creatures, all under the guise of searching for a cure for his daughter's case 'Black Scrawl' virus. It won't be easy, given the fact the virus has run rampant across the entire globe. On the plus side, he does have some allies and a 'mysterious book'. Should be useful.

The gameplay seems to be similar to the Devil May Cry series, with a variety of weapons and magic abilities available to Nier. Chaining attacks for maximum damage appears to be the order of the day.

Square Enix is hoping that Nier will surface on store shelves next year. The screenshots can be found at the game's official website, while the first trailer can be seen below this text, with more information to surface during the course of E3.

well it has my interest, though truth be told that may be more to do with square enix's involvement more then anything...

Looks so-so. For some reason the voice over guy seems really corny. But yeah, DMC style? I mean, I liked the series, but all I can think of is repetitve hack-n-slash. Maybe Sqaure will change that.

Nier-ly interested in this game. Didn't like the character design. Or the aesthetic.

DMC is much deeper than you're giving it credit for meier, it's about as deep as a fighting game. Unless you mean this looks like a repetitive hack-n-slash, in which case I agree.

It looks dark and Foreboding. Very Un-square-like. I guess it could be interesting, more details are needed.

I looked up Cavia.

And there track record well mixed. Nothing that stands out as "Holy **** that was awesome" but a fair bit that was "yeah that was kinda cool"

Yeah my problem is that it seems a safe option when really I don't want a safe option with yet another hoard of zombies to be hacked and disposed of in yet another manner by yet another man with giant sword. I'm beginning to think that there's no companies out there who don't think "right zombies, lets put 5 billion in and swarm the player!" "BRILLIANT!" Stagnating it for mine.
