E3 2009: Crackdown 2 official

360 News | Announced via debut trailer.
At its morning press conference at E3, Microsoft officially announced Crackdown 2 for Xbox 360. The game is being developed by Ruffian Studios, not original developers Realtime Worlds.

At the conference, Microsoft released a computer-generated trailer, which began with the announcement: “The city is infected. You are the cure”. No actual gameplay footage was revealed, but the trailer does give us a few details on the game. We see a character jump off a very tall building in pursuit of a felon and then throwing a large piece of machinery off a roof.

As the nameless charter wields a gun, the announcer tells us that “our enemies have no-where to run”. However, he then says “just remember – neither do you”. There’s a massive explosion, and things wrap up with the Crackdown 2 logo.

If you would like to see it for yourself, the trailer is embedded below.

There are no words, no word to express my joy at this news. Guess I was wrong when I said there would be nothing of worth coming from this E3.

Oh wow, says I. Then I see it's not being handled by the original developers. ohshi- says I.

No David Jones involved? Then I reserve judgement on my excitement until I get to see gameplay footage or play it.

I’m really hoping that stuff was in engine cause it looked brilliant, also I smiled a little that in the big dramatic cut scene there was a magical agility orb floating around.

Also hell yes other super powered things, that was one thing Crackdown needed.

Ah what? Ruffian Games is made up of old Realtime staff who left last year, supposedly a whole heap from the Crackdown developmental team.

So it might be a different name but it's basically the same people.

Anyway now that I got that out of the way.

WHOOOOOOOO! **** YEAH! NEW ******* CRACKDOWN *******!

Also pumped about this out-of-left-field announcement. It's great to see it get a following and the respect it deserves and not just be known forever as the halo3 beta game. All this needs is a little more mission structure/stuff to do but with the same completely open do what you want feel. I don't want a massive story, but a few different types of missions would be great.

Except for David Jones.

I trust that man more than a bunch of ex-employees when it comes to fun game designs.
