Mass Effect 2 to be two disc affair

360 News | More massive than we expected.
BioWare's Community Coordinator, Chris Priestly has confirmed that Mass Effect 2 will indeed be a massive title with game spread over two discs on both the PC and Xbox 360 iterations of the game.
Those who choose to purchase the collector's edition of the title will get three discs all up, thanks to a bunch of bonus content on offer.

The PC version of the title will allow you to install everything onto the hard drive and then simply have one of the discs in your drive as you play, while the Xbox 360 version will require gamers to swap discs at a certain point in the game. Priestly has assured gamers that the 'disc swap' will occur only once, taking place at a "carefully planned place in the game".

Priestly claims that the need for two discs is because "you cannot fit this much awesome on one disc" and while we'll leave that up to gamers to form their own opinion when the title hits the shelves next January, the extremely positive reception to their latest title, Dragon Age: Origins is reason enough for the company to be confident for the next installment of their space odyssey.

Wouldn't have this problem with a Blu-Ray disc!

Predicting this will get RC'd, too.

But then you'd have a 20 GB install instead. I like being able to put a disc into my console and play straight away thanks.

You've got to get up to put a disc into the console to play the game anyway so having to get up at a mid point isn't going to kill you.

I see you got your facts right regarding BD drives.

I don't think any PS3 game has ever come close to a 20GB install, and they are getting less frequent every month. Uncharted 2 is arguably the best looking console game ever and has no install, it doesn't even have any loading screens besides the initial load when you start the game. Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 doesn't have an install, so I don't see why Mass Effect 2 should have to if/when it comes to PS3.

Does it really matter that much?
Whether it's an install or a disc swap, it's a one off thing, so who cares?
unless this is just a disguised fanboy argument.

Man I hate having to get off my couch once every 15 hours to swap a disc. Life is getting too hard for us gamers.

There's not much stuff that can happen that won't stop me buying this game. Also how did this turn into a console war? Regardless of how many disc it's on its still a microsoft exclusive. That's like saying Uncharted would be better on 360. Even if it would be it's never going to happen

Disc swapping is such a last generation feature...

Nah, Bioware would have to put explicit full frontal sex in the game for it to get rc'd. It wont have crazy gore either just like the first didn't so its all good. I expect the oflc will rate it soon if not already.

I hate having to keep swapping those floppy discs every 10 mins. What a pain!

It has already been classified as MA15+.

It's probably an install disc like Forza 3.

What, like rumble is a last generation feature?

Is this news really worthy of an article??? I like more discs, it allows for cliffhangers like FF 7 & 8 :D

I suspect the change will be just be to allow more cutscenes, not new envronments.

Cant really compare the two, rumble hasnt had an update where as advances in storage on optical media have.......

Either way I could care less as untill digital downloads happen developers will find ways of filling up optical media regardless of disc type.

Good to see they've spared no expense (i.e. cut down on content just to fit it on one disc). Bioware has confirmed that it won't be an install like Forza (as Forza's additional content is considered 'optional' and those without the HDD space can play through the majority of the game uncompromised, this wouldn't be accceptable for a story-driven game like Mass Effect).

I think I can live with swapping a disc every 20 hours or so.

RE4 had 2 discs and that certainly didn't lessen the experience. It's a bit of a non issue really.

Yeah the first wasn't censored because their was nothing that needed censoring. The media just blew it out of proportion when it was actually less explicit than something you'd see on day time tv.
