Capcom 2010 releases delayed

According to Capcom's revised forecast for the (Japanese) financial year ending 31 March 2010, major titles including Super Street Fighter IV and Lost Planet 2 will be pushed out of their release window of early 2010. While often delays like this aren't explained, the report plainly states that the delay came about to "...avoid competing with the major titles that other companies plan to introduce in the 4th quarter."

Presumably the major titles Capcom refer to include the likes of Final Fantasy XIII, Bioshock 2 and God of War 3; formidable competition in anyone's language.

You might recall Capcom's similarly savvy strategy earlier this year when they released Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV in the quiet mid-period of the year, isolating them from other major releases so that they would receive maximum attention (which they certainly did).

The new financial year for Capcom will commence April 2010, so expect to see the aforementioned titles, as well as Capcom big-hitters like Dead Rising 2, arriving from that period onwards.

So we have games pushed out of the Q4-Xmas period due to heavy competition, in turn pushing other games out of Q1 period due to the new competition... Can anyone say 'gaming glut'?

And I was so looking forward to some new SF4 action soon.

I think it's a smart move; given a bunch of companies have opted even now to hold off a game's release from 4th Quauter for the 1st Quater which should be a quieter period. Of course with this happening; I can see the benefits to pushing back the 2nd or 3rd quater. Despite my desire for Super Street Fighter 4.

Though I have little interest in either of those games, the more spaced out next year's releases are, the better; it's going to be a solid year of quality games.
