Xbox Live Game Room Announced

360 News | Taking the games room out of your house, and into your...Xbox?

Microsoft have announced their new Xbox Live service titled Game Room during their keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Game Room will see players use their Xbox Live avatar in the simulated arcades playing some video games classics like Centipede and Asteroids Deluxe with more titles to be announced closer to the date.

With the ability to challenge friends online, climb the leaderboards or compete in a ranked online match, Game Room will have plenty of online offerings. Microsoft have stated that the Game Room will be a free download from either the Xbox Live dashboard or Games for Windows client on the PC. However each game is going to set you back 400 Microsoft points for both Xbox Live and Games for Windows systems, or just 240 Microsoft points to unlock a game for either the Xbox Live or Games for Windows platform.

Xbox Live's Game Room is expected to be released on Xbox Live and Games for Windows in the second quarter of this year.

Will they all be new games though, or just ones already on the XBLA. And will they all have achievements? And do you have to buy one to play it, or can you play it without buying?

50 years from now we'll have Games where you play with your avatar inside a lounge room with an Xbox 360 and your avatar inside that would be playing games.

But will my avatar be able to walk around the arcade and beat up the smaller avatars for their coins?

Actually after looking at the vid; I want this. Just hope the games aren't all old anchient ones. Doubt we'd see Donkey Kong sadly...

All depends on price for me, if the prices are the numbers that have been thrown around, I say awesome, if they're like 800 a pop (I'm looking at YOU Hasbro Games Night thingy) then they can take a belt sander to their nether regions.
