The Passing is an entirely new campaign chapter, and sees the survivors of Left 4 Dead 2; Rochelle, Coach, Nick and Ellis, encountering and teaming up with the survivors from the first game; Bill, Francis, Zoey and Louis.
Valve have announced that The Passing is now set to drop in late March this year.
Though the Left 4 Dead survivors won't be playable, Valve has also revealed another campaign DLC chapter, except this one is for the original Left 4 Dead. This currently unnamed campaign will detail the journey of the original survivors down South leading up to The Passing, thereby properly connecting the stories of both games. However, The Passing is exclusively playable on Left 4 Dead 2, while this additional campaign chapter will be exclusively playable on the original Left 4 Dead.
Continuing with the trend of each level's 'Uncommon Common' infected, The Passing will feature its own unique zombie variant, branded the Fallen Survivor. These are apparently humans who had believed themselves immune to the infection only to discover that was not the case. Unlike other infected, they are capable of dropping health and ammunition when killed.
If that wasn't enough Left 4 Dead news for you, there will also be a digital comic book to be released after The Passing. According to Valve's Chet Faliszek, it will serve as an opportunity to better get to know the original cast of survivors.
