Agreed, can't wait for this. I grew up playing Sonic, so am really looking forward to playing a decent Sonic game in HD. I only wish they where releasing this in retail form. How friggin awesome would a Box (with nice Artwork) and a Manual be.

They could of kept the original look and feel but updated it also, put in some grass and try to get rid of the checkers that are in every screen....

do i feel a mario Vs sonic war coming on again...."Nah way, Mario is way heaps better!"

lol....the old days...

oh and mario IS better...lol

Looks good but you're right Mario is better. Simply because there are puzzle aspects and skill required. Sonic was as simple as it got.

I don't know why but I never enjoyed Mario games that much. I really liked Yoshi's Island though.

Btw Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the best game ever made, ha ha take that, fat plumber lovers!!!

The screens look great so far. The graphics are updated well and still retain the traditional look of the the series. I'm looking forward to this one.

i like the look of this - is this supposed to be episodic?

would be annoying to play a couple of levels at a time.

Finally it looks like after all these years we'll be getting a good Sonic game icon_smile.gif The originals were awesome because they were so simple... Sonic Unleashed did a lot right as well, but they **** it up with the Werehog moments. Sometimes less is better... look at New Super Mario Bros Wii - simple, like the originals, and massively successful!

I'll wait until I get some game time, the screens aren't doing much for me.

I did read in Game Informer that Sega felt a Sonic title in episodic form was the best way, that no-one would spend on a full priced 2D title. Interesting thoughts. I do hope they get it right, the world needs a good Sonic game again. Besides, I'm in a nostalgia mood. Old school is back in.

I read that too, but look at New Super Mario Bros Wii. That has been popular and sold well.

If Sega put effort in and made a nice looking Manual and Box Art and sold it in retail form for around $50-$60, I reckon alot of people would buy it. I know I would.

I doubt most people care about box arts and manuals, all they do is waste space and money. It is heaps easier and convenient to download everything and have it all there a click/button press away instead of having to go through a lot of cases to find the game you want etc.

they can make it downloadable but not episodic...

also i am cautious - i thought the gba or was it ds 2D sonics - sonic rush were ordinary... the screen was too small to see where the hell you were going...

Yeeess... well I don't think you'll need to worry about that exactly with this version...

My personal feeling is pretty ambivalent towards this. It's funny - for a long time we've all been telling SEGA that to succeed with another Sonic game they had to start again from the original format. From the looks of these screens they seem to have heard that as "Make it exactly the same as the first three titles" - which is not quite what we meant; or at least what I meant.

Will wait 'til some video footage comes out before getting too opinionated on this, but my gut is telling me they've made a poor choice using the same old level design as their first impression.

^ Agreed. Sonic has mis-stepped for some time now mainly into the world of 3D. This looks like a step back to the original games not a step forward. Sonic was always simple to play, but you didn't mind so much because it looked so cool. A HD version of Sonic 2 might look nice, but by todays standards doesn't have enough bang for your buck.

I guess what I was hoping for was a game that played in the 2D plane but with a dynamic camera or some foreground/background interaction. Use the technology to make sonic look amazing again!

Some games can make a transition to 3D while others never will. Sonic was one of those games. It's funny though, after years and years of failing, Sega finally decided to listen to consumer and make what they wanted, what made Sonic such a hit years ago, a fast, visually appealing 2D side scrolling platformer. Here's hoping that a) they don't mess this up, and b) they can continue this trend onto other classics (Streets of Rage ohhh yeah, ToeJam & Earl, Golden Axe... Wonderboy III... memories).

I love box art and manuals, I know they just sit there and build up continually and its extremely rare for anyone to sit down and look through them from time to time but I still wouldn't have it any other way ^^ Plus you can't sell/give digital content, I see that as such a waste as I prefer my products (Unless I really love them) to be in the hands of someone who will get more joy out of it.

On topic this is great to see, tbh I never minded the 3D sonic games, but I don't understand why SEGA couldn't create a sonic that played out like Mirrors Edge or something. Sonic Adventure Battle 2 is still my favourite sonic game personally, loved it, especially the battle with Shadow.

And I wonder how many characters will be in this to use, perhaps you'll be able to unlock them by accomplishing various tasks. I know old sonic fans will only want to see Sonic and Robotnik (And Tails/Knuckles) at most, but SEGA are obviously trying to appeal to both audiences by the looks of it so I can expect Shadow, Amy and/or Silver to be in it. Not that I mind I like all these characters ^^
