Red Dead Redemption: Liars and Cheats arrives on 21 September

360 News | Not so free after all.
Another batch of DLC for Red Dead Redemption will be available to download on 21 September; the 'Liars and Cheats Pack' is going to add some longevity to the free roam multiplayer experience.

Originally planned as a free expansion, Rockstar has been forced to charge players for this new content due to network restrictions. Basically, they can only give away a certain amount of free DLC according to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live restrictions. The pack will include the following:

  • Multiplayer Poker and Liar's Dice Games: One of the most fan-requested features comes to multiplayer.

  • Multiplayer Horse Races: Ride out against your friends and foes online - with mounted combat guns blazing.

  • The Explosive Rifle: A devastatingly destructive new weapon with its own new single-player and multiplayer challenges.

  • Seven New Gang Hideouts: Posse up and take on the new Hideouts together to level up quickly.

  • Four New Hunting Grounds: New Hunting Grounds are now visible on the map for all to see, with some of the most action-packed wildlife hunting yet.

  • Stronghold Competitive Multiplayer Mode: Teams take turns in attack and defense in multi-tiered Competitive games.

  • Posse Scoring and Leaderboards: Compare stats with other posses and compete to see who are the kings of the Free Roam frontier.

There will also be fifteen new character skins along with a new set of Trophies and Achievements. The Liars and Cheats Pack will be released worldwide on September 21, costing AU$15.95 on the PlayStation Network and 800 MSP (AU$13) on Xbox Live.

Anyone know what these restrictions are, or where can they be found?

I find it all very strange. I know Microsoft are pretty tight when it comes to achievements, so DLC including them is rarely free. And since Rockstar already released the co-op missions free, along with the new outfits pack, I guess Microsoft just want a share of the profits.

I don't agree with it myself, as far as I'm concerned, all DLC like this should be free (exceptions like GTA IV warrant the price tag). But hey, money makes the world go around.

How much did Burnout Paradise give out for free? Surely that would be more than what Red Dead has so far, making this a gigantic crock of ****.

Not a lot. Maybe a couple of cars and the bike update, but the major expansion wasn't free...at least I don't think it was.

There was a massive free add on that updated heaps of crap and gave heaps of stuff, the extra area was paid though, as was the Cops and Robbers thingie.

I think they got away with it because it was a "patch".

isn't that basically the same reason the 360 version of team fortress 2 is still yet to see the class updates? microsoft wouldn't let them put it up for free, so valve was trying to bundle everything to at least make it less of a rip off.

strangely enough though, you still see free cars for forza 3 and free songs for guitar hero/rock band every once in a while so maybe the same rules don't apply when it's an ms published game or from some other big publisher like acti.

Didn't they already release the Coop stuff for free?

Yes, they need to charge.. but not THAT much.. surely??

If only others would boycott this kinda overpriced **** and just move on to new games.. maybe they'd get the message.. but sadly, people are going to throw more money on the already oversized pile and these big developers will continue to charge a lot for DLC.

Buy an indie game instead!

This pack actually has a pretty good offering, I can see why they wanted to make it free though. Some of this stuff should have been included in the game at launch.

I wonder if a bundled game and DLC pack will come out for RDR - like Fallout GOTY or the upcoming Dragon Age Ultimate thing. I want to play this but the price is still far too high, especially considering the DLC costs.

not to mention the upcoming goty edition of borderlands. i'd at least expect a bundle package similar to the gta iv episodes.

This reeks of BS. If they "had to" charge did they "have to" charge $15 for this, couldn't they do it at a notional charge, say $2.95. Alternatively they could have just bundled it all together as patch and Sony and Microsoft would have been non-the wiser.
