TGS 2005: Xbox 360 release dates revealed

360 News | Updated after we spoke to Microsoft about an Australian date..
Microsoft's pre-TGS conference has started, and first detail off the bat is one that everyone has been waiting for - the Xbox 360 release date.

The Xbox 360 will be available in the USA first on November 22nd, followed shortly by Europe on December 2nd, with the Japanese release being the last one for 2005 on December 11th. No Australian release date has been announced yet.

One other interesting tidbit is that Microsoft will only be releasing one Xbox 360 kit in Japan, which will include the removable 20GB HD, wireless controller, a media remote control, a headset, an ethernet cable, batteries and a component HD-AV cable. What effect this will have on Japanese game development for the 360 remains to be seen. The Xbox 360 will retail in Japan for 37,900 yen ($AU446, £188, or 280 Euros).

Expect more news from TGS 2005 over the next couple of days.

Update: Microsoft have circulated a press release stating that the Xbox 360 will be available early 2006 for Australia, which should indicate the console will launch in January or February 2006.

It'll probably be cheaper to just import from Europe anyway. I don't understand why we would receive such a drastic delay though.

If I recall correctly, the first Xbox was launched in March here, so I'd imagine that's roughly when we should expect the 360. icon_sad.gif

You can be fairly sure we'll get it in March 2006. However, a reasonably reliable rumour I've heard is that Australia will be getting something special regarding the 360 before Xmas. What it is, I don't know, nor do I have enough information to even begin to guess, however it's supposed to be for gaming enthusiasts such as ourselves.

You know i always find it so strange how a 5-6 year old will view a xbox 360 or next gen graphics in general and later on in life compare it to how we think of the nes/amigas etc of our day.hmmm...

Either way, a different euro/aus date?Gay...doesnt make much sense. Both pals...

Oh wait......i dont care about xbox 360.....

Even though the earlier we get the new console the better, I am actually hoping for a March release myself. Then it will give me a chance to save for a whole bunch of games too. icon_smile.gif

At least you guys are getting the Xbox 360 at all. Us poor suckers in South Africa, like the original Xbox, probably won't ever get an official launch. I'll probably import mine from Canada. I've placed a pre-order for the X360 ultimate bundle and Dead or Alive 4 at DVD Box Office.

I was thinking March 2006 too.

Earlier would be a bonus. icon_biggrin.gif
