Moore reiterates commitment to backwards compatibility on 360

360 News | As 21 more titles are announced for BC list.
Peter Moore has gone on record to explain his recent comments regarding Microsoft's commitment to the backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360. In an interview with gaming site Kikizo, which we reported on ten days ago, the Microsoft executive was quoted as saying, "Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised and over delivered on that. It's a very complicated thing... very complex work. I'm just stunned that we have hundreds of games that are backwards compatible."

Such comments were interpreted by many sites as a hint that Microsoft may abandon its target of making every Xbox game compatible with the 360. However, speaking in a podcast on Major Nelson's blog yesterday, Moore insisted his comments had been misunderstood. "My words - that nobody's concerned about backwards compatibility - were misinterpreted as no one cares about backwards compatibility; that's not the case at all," he said. "I want to be clear that my comments were not about nobody cares - of course we care, and we're going to continue to try and get as close as we can to our stated target of every Xbox game being backcompat to the 360, and I'm hopeful we can get there."

As if to prove Microsoft's commitment to the cause, Moore also revealed that a further 21 games have been added to the backwards compatibility list, including:
  • 4x4 EVO 2
  • Amped 2
  • Bad Boys 2
  • Big Mutha Truckers
  • Doom 3
  • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
  • Fatal Frame
  • FlatOut
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • Intellivision Lives
  • Lego Star Wars
  • Minority Report
  • MLB Slugfest 20-04
  • The Punisher
  • RalliSport Challenge
  • Silent Hill 4: The Room
  • Spawn Armageddon
  • Spider-Man
  • Star Wars Battlefront
  • State of Emergency
  • Zapper

Hilarious.

How could ANYONE 'misinterpret' "nobody's concerned bout backwards compatibility" as no one caring about it? It is so clear!!!

Yay Doom 3 on the next list of games! Need to finally finish this. I bought it on PC (launch day) and I got upto hell and it stuffed up. Turns out my Geforce 4 mx440 was an incompatiable card (I wonder how it managed to run it for most of the game). Basically after lots of fiddling around (and even getting a new monitor from Dell for free)....I ended up putting a screwdriver thru that video card. Next was Doom 3 on Xbox where I picked up the special edition for $27 about 4 months back. While playing this my xbox power adaptor (new one with kill switch) makes a clicking sound and the xbox turns off. Anyways cut a long story short I think one of the resistors is blown as if the machine is run for more than 2 hours it overheats and won't work untill it has completely cooled down (about 1/2 - 1 day it takes). Anyways I ended up punching the crap out of the xbox for like 5 mins.....it still works but man is it ever loud! Also the overheating problem still exists.

Anyways.....Yay....Doom 3.

So maybe you'll finally be able to finish it on the 360 ugh!

Good on him for realising he said some stupid things that resulted in some harsh reactions.

Misinterpreted? Then how were we supposed to have interpreted what he said then? Talk about backpedalling.

Anyway, this is great news. I've always considered backward compatibility as a big plus if I get a 360. So I was disappointed to learn about the news of Microsoft not caring about bc anymore. I'm glad they haven't totally given up on it.

Perhaps if people listen to the podcast they'd actually understand. His comment was directed at the press saying that no one was asking him every 30 seconds about it like they were at E3 05. Hence that means they weren't concerned about since they weren't asking the questions icon_wink.gif

Ah. I don't subscribe to the afformentioned podcast. So, naturally, I didn't know about that. Thanks for clarifying the issue though.

Indeed. There's quite a difference between the two terms. I'm not concerned about my mother's health at the moment, but I sure as hell care about it. icon_razz.gif

For those who care: this article is now updated with the 21 newly BC games (Microsoft released the list today).

Yes! The list includes Dreamfall! icon_biggrin.gif I so want to play that game when I was still planning on getting a 360 only to find out it would only play on the Xbox. I also want to pick up Doom 3 and Lego Starwars now. Hmm... Maybe I should get the 360 sooner rather than later after all.
