New Halo 3 ad makes TV debut

360 News | New weapon ahoy.
It's not often we'd report on a TV advert for a game, but then Halo 3 is perhaps an understandable exception. If you missed the news earlier this week, Microsoft was planning to premiere a new Halo 3 trailer on December 4 in the US, and also in parts of Europe. Well, it's been and gone, and the footage is now available for all and sundry to pore over, either on Xbox.com, or by downloading it from the Xbox Live Marketplace (in HD, we might add).

The 60-second ad was broadcast during ESPN Monday Night Football in the US earlier today, and in the UK on Channel 4 just, ooh, half an hour ago. It opens on two children star-gazing, pondering the possibility of life on other planets as they recline in a grassy field. As the camera pans away from them, the ad switches from their innocent daydreaming to Master Chief, slugging it out on some unidentified battlefield. Look! There's the pistol! And the voice of Cortana! A battle rifle, an upturned warthog and - ZOMGBBQ! - a new weapon, a grenade that generates a protective forcefield around Master Chief. Nice.

Anyway, we won't spoil it all for you - head here to see the new trailer in its entirety.

As for the ad... It was as Bungie say "nifty".

That's what happens when you just use a pre-render.

Yeah, even though the MC model was supplied by Bungie and will be used in-game for Halo 3. icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually it's most likely Nightmare Armour that's had CGI over the top. As apparently there's Live Action in there, and the Chief is the only thing that's really Live Actiony.

So don't get too excited Jim.

720P: Yes, 5.1: No

Still a "good" version, just not the "best" though icon_wink.gif
