Unreal Tournament 2007 renamed and set for 360

360 News | An Epic announcement made.
At Midway's 2007 Gamer's Day, Epic VP Mark Rein has revealed that Unreal Tournament 2007 will now be known as Unreal Tournament III. According to GameSpot, Rein commented that the title has been changed because "The new name is to reflect the fact that this game is the next generation of the Unreal series, based on the Unreal Engine 3,"

Rein also revealed that Unreal Tournament III will arrive on the Xbox 360. "The 360 is a platform that we've had a little bit of success on". Gears of War is the biggest seller for the Xbox 360 and has now surpassed 3,000,000 sales worldwide.

I don't think the name change will have any affect on sales (considering all they did was take 2004 off the original title icon_razz.gif). I just hope this plays as good as it looks.

The Unreal Tourney series is a big big favorite of mine. But Ill get it on PC I think.

I'm really hoping Tourney III is the best ever and raises the bar a few notches more and I'm also hoping that ID's Quake entry this time proves to be a worthy alternative. Come on, Crysis + UT3 + Quake Wars all in one year please!

So what will they call the next UT game that also uses the Unreal 3.0 engine?

"Unreal Tournament III with a few extra features and a slight face-lift"?

Good point.

Getting Unreal Engine to 3.x spec; Epic burned a very high proportion of available cash resources so it's not due for a major overhaul for a few years. The developers who have just paid for licenses (Atari, Sony & EA) also would not appreciate a full 4.x version anytime soon. So what will Epic name the next Tourney or is this the last we will see for a while?

Well to be fair, the last Ut was back in 2004 as the title said, it's been almost 3 years now. With the next UR engine due in 2009/2010 it wouldn't surprise me if they just live of UT3 for the next few years.

I think that they will call it Unreal Tournament "Insert Year Name" or maybe they would add in some sort of adjective to describe that version. This name change didn't suprise me at all. I was actually expecting it to occur due to the popularity of the engines name with other games like Gears of War and plenty more in the future. I will be extremely pleased if this game can work on my laptop. It would become my new show off game.

I agree, I will have to get a new video card though but I think I'll run it on my Linux PC (other UT games have worked on it in the past)

so... lets just ignore that little game called Unreal Tournament 2003, shallwe?

(this is the 4th UT game in the series, in case people are wondering what i'm on about.)

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

But anyway, even though I'll had both PS3 and 360 by its release, there's no doubt it'll be going on PC. It belongs on PC, nuff said.

By the time it's released, I'll have a kickin' PC, so I'll probably get it on that, since it's more suited to 'twitch' shooters than a console.
