Capcom has announced on its Japanese website that the previously PS3 exclusive Devil May Cry 4 will also be released on the Xbox 360 and PC. While there have been unsubstantiated rumours of the possibility, it still comes as a shock, since unlike the similar rumours about the Metal Gear franchise jumping ship, the Devil May Cry series has always been exclusive to Sony machines. Also surprising is the announcement that the game will be coming to PC, although it is implied that it will be at a later date.
A machine translation of the Japanese press release reads:
"Devil May Cry 4 ' "PlayStation 3", Xbox 360, with the multi-platform of PC sale decision!, and says that after popular showings at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, they decided to bring the game to both PS3 and Xbox 360 'simultaneously', with a later PC release assumed. The release date is only listed as 'Undecided', so it could still be a way off.
The PS3 has been going through some hard times recently, being handily outsold by its competitors in both Japan and the US every week, so Capcom's decision seems likely to be based on their perception of where money can be made. No mention of releases outside Japan yet, but given the 360 barely registers on the Japanese market, western releases would be the entire point of this announcement.
