Devil May Cry 4 goes multi-platform

360 News | Xbox 360 getting the game on day one, PC release to follow.
And another PS3 exclusive falls.

Capcom has announced on its Japanese website that the previously PS3 exclusive Devil May Cry 4 will also be released on the Xbox 360 and PC. While there have been unsubstantiated rumours of the possibility, it still comes as a shock, since unlike the similar rumours about the Metal Gear franchise jumping ship, the Devil May Cry series has always been exclusive to Sony machines. Also surprising is the announcement that the game will be coming to PC, although it is implied that it will be at a later date.

A machine translation of the Japanese press release reads:

"Devil May Cry 4 ' "PlayStation 3", Xbox 360, with the multi-platform of PC sale decision!, and says that after popular showings at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, they decided to bring the game to both PS3 and Xbox 360 'simultaneously', with a later PC release assumed. The release date is only listed as 'Undecided', so it could still be a way off.

The PS3 has been going through some hard times recently, being handily outsold by its competitors in both Japan and the US every week, so Capcom's decision seems likely to be based on their perception of where money can be made. No mention of releases outside Japan yet, but given the 360 barely registers on the Japanese market, western releases would be the entire point of this announcement.

Well I own a PS3 and an Xbox 360. I enjoy my 360 a lot more and I don't really see any point of owning my PS3 anymore. I'm pretty annoyed to say the least.

Sony must be feeling like **** right about now.

Perhaps you should give the PS3 as much time as the 360 has had to develop a strong library of games before writing it off as a console not worth your time. To be fair, the 360 had a pretty shaky start itself - with nearly a full year before really impressive games started coming out.

I don't like this news. It indicates that DMC4 has been 'open' coded if you will, meaning it won't take particular advantage of each consoles merits.

What do I mean? Well if it were an exclusive it would take full advantage of the hardware (see Gears of War or Crysis) but instead, its gone down the route of multiplatforming and is worse off as a result. icon_cry.gif

@joejoe: Your thread just got knee-capped icon_lol.gif . Looks like there's only room for one source of news on this website.

Good news. But I suspect its more do to do with spreading the costs of development across more platforms.

I think developers are finally realising just how much it costs to develop games for the PS3.

Bean counters be concerned that not enough PS3s out there for re-couping the costs.

Ha, why am I buying a PS3 again...oh Blu-Ray that's right. Futher nails in the point there isn't really many games you'll need a PS3 for.

Ha ha, I want to be in the Sony Board room when they had a conference call with Capcom -

Capcom Rep - 'Have we er, news'
Sony Board - 'YES, we love your work capcom, we can't wait to see DMC on powerful PS3!! Dead Rising and Lost planet very unimportant, DMC very important!'
Capcom Rep - 'yeah bout that, ummm, PS3 really doesn't have such a large installer base, so, ummm, I don't know how to say this...'
Sony Board - 'YES, we told customers to start next gen when we say so, Devil May Cry is the game to show true HD!'
Capcom Rep - 'er, we are brining DMC to the 360 as well guys'
Sony Board - *silence*
Capcom Rep - 'It's not you, it's us...'
Sony Board - *silence*

I would rather games be exclusive and take proper advantage of the hardware.

But if I didn't plan to own all consoles, I would agree with you.

Both of them are all but gone. MGS is always ported cross platform, Komani don't really care. It will just have a nice 'exclusive' window. I suspect the same with FFXIII with all the talk about the engine being non-platform specific. And if Square-Enix were loyal to Sony, they should wouldn't be bringing Dragon Quest to the DS.

Sony better start buying some developers.

Most consoles have a fairly shaky start as far as a good game libary goes, im part from Zelda what blockbuster hits did the Wii have? PS2, Xbox 1 were the same too, its just the nature of the beast.

Waiting till the PS3 has a libary is what I am wating for, thats why I yet to own a PS3 or 360, when is noticeably better then I will make a decision

Yeah I understand that and I agree that the current PS3 line up is a lot better then the 360 had at the same point in its life. Still doesn't change the present though but I must admit I never expected Ps3 to stand a chance in 07, 08 is looking quite good. Oh well there's always Bluray, which I think will be my ps3s primary function for a year at least.

It's true it's good and bad news. Good in that more people will be able to play it. Bad in that there is no devotion to one console which may make the game a little rough around the edges.

Yeah true, but I suspect the game will be push back a little now.

Oh, your post was hard to interpret. I thought you meant no consoles have a blockbuster at launch.
