Fresh Alan Wake shots

360 News | The first in a while.
By our reckoning, it's been over six months since we last saw any Alan Wake media, so a round of applause please for Jeux-France, which has just posted three new screens up from Remedy's promising adventure game.

For those still wondering what the fuss is about, Alan Wake is a free-roaming psychological action thriller set in an idyllic all-American small town in Washington. You play as the titular Alan, a bestselling horror writer who writes a novel about his darkest nightmares, which - shriek! - come true. Oh, and it's bee-yoo-ti-ful. Check out the new screens (note: they're from the Xbox 360 version, not the PC) here.

WOW WOW WOW WOWWWW!!! Seriously that's next-gen sh!t imo!! Everytime I see screens of Alan Wake I am blown away! I love weather effects in games as they really help with the immersion and atmosphere and Alan Wake looks to have the best weather effects i've ever seen.

Just WOW!

Also everything in the environment is interactive or destructible in some way. The buildings are all supposed to be destructible and objects e.g logs and cars etc that you can see in the mill area are supposed to have proper physics so that they can be thrown around etc.

Remedy are always known to have good graphics but this is something else! Just look at the geometry on that mill....just amazing! Even thinking in that much detail would take me years!

This game is going to be massive. Is there a proposed release date for this game yet? A game like this, if it remains exclusive to the 360, could do wonders for their sales. Start your bids PS3, we need this.

My thoughts exactly, I'm sick of seeing all these gorgeous screenshots with no release date attached.

I want to see some over the top physics in action in a realistic environment while I'm playing before the end of 2007.

I wish people would just let the devs do their thing. The more people complaining about release dates the more the devs are forced to rush it.

I too want it to come out soon but I don't want to be told November 2007 and it just get pushed back to 2008 or something. If the devs had a solid release date i'm sure we'd get it. Also i'd spew if it came out all buggy and glitchy! Oblivion suffered for me as a result of it being rushed and I don't want this happening to any game EVER again!

Take Sylar's release dates with a grain of salt but Remedy are a Finnish developer so the confirmed release date for Europe and TBA for the U.S could be true.

Edit: Klawrence....what does that mean? You think Alan Wake could end up being pushed back so far it becomes a little bit llike S.T.A.L.K.E.R (in that it drops on and off the release lists for years)? Or are you saying it looks like a rip-off or it's not gonna hold a candle to S.T.A.L.K.E.R....cuz after having some good playtime with S.T.A.L.K.E.R i'm pretty dissapointed. Awesome graphics, weather effects, A.I etc but the game is just so boring! The game is littered with fetch quests and the PDA/Map system is probably the crappiest (but at the same time looking like it would be effective) i've ever used in a game! In other words I hope to hell it ain't anything like S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of a good game.

Yer man, just noting that it looks like a game that is going to take forever to come out and applying that to S.T.A.L.K.E.R because i think its a game that may fall into its shadow.....if you know what i mean icon_wink.gif

Have you guys been to the Remedy Website? Those Alan Wake screens on there are even better.

Here is one:

The rest you guys can see on the site. Just make sure you click on the ones to the right which shows different environments with different times of the day/weather conditions.

This game is going to have multi-core support for up to Quad Cores.

Still not convinced. I look forward to some previews, though.

Remedy were the guys behind Max Payne and Max Payne 2, that's convinced me already.

It also helps that the game looks like Oblivion without the pop up and HDR abuse.

icon_lol.gif I just started playing Oblivion the other day and thought to myself, "why is there so much **** bloom?". icon_lol.gif

Technically, I think this game will be an accomplishment after seeing the demo of the physics and weather effects.
The fact that its by Remedy gives me confidence that the game shall be a good one.

I like Max Payne, in fact I loved it when I played it first, but I will not be interested if this game is too similar to it. However, the thought of some kind of Max Payne/Oblivion/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. hybrid does intrigue me.

Yeah, I was just starting to think about this myself.

Wasn't this the game that Intel were using to demo at the launch of the quad-core CPU?

One core was going to be dedicated purely to physics processing?

I'm as excited for this game as Ugh is, infact speaking of which we seem to have a similar taste when it comes to the upcoming games man.

Anyway back to Alan Wake, I really don't see it coming out this year. Which suits be perfectly because well, I want this game to have as much development time as it needs to be the ultimate game that it is shaping up to me. Obviously it's looking absolutely f-ing hot but if previews of it so far (there have been a few) are any indication then the game will be a blast to play as well. So yeah, while seeing a release this year would be nice I really wouldn't care if I had to wait either. BioShock can be the game of this year, Alan Wake the game of next. icon_biggrin.gif

^ Yea my gaming tastes seem to be quite similar to yours and Frozencry's. Lots of big blockbuster action games....that's the sorta stuff that's always at the top of the list and then most of the classic franchises.

Woah...

This game looks incredible!

I'm with ugh on this one - this game truly looks 'next-gen' - fantastic!

Heck, I'd be inclined to consider an Xbox 360 (once its price drops a fair bit... heh heh) if games that look this good are going to be the norm for the system (as long as they play well, naturally).

Very impressive!

Yeah this is it. One core for physics (showed a mini-tornado), one core for weather and the other cores for whatever else a game needs.

Well... now that you mention it...

My sister has a high-end Mac, and they can run Windows natively... which means I could potentially get games for the Mac/PC... IF I had Windows...
Hmm...

I know my sister's Mac/PC can run 'Half Life 2' (SO want to get this) - whether 'Alan Wake' will be on par with HL2 in terms of system requirements, or whether it'll require a whole lot more, is pretty much the crucial question here.

Console gaming is SO much more convenient.
And I can play games while sitting in my couch to boot! icon_biggrin.gif

HL2's system requirements are very low relative to new games.

Do whatever floats your boat, but a little PC gaming on the side can only be a good thing icon_wink.gif

Pfft you can see the strings icon_razz.gif

Is this coming out for 360?I thought it was so far pc only.

Lookin tight i mustr admit, though i still hope remedy have laid the Max Payne series to rest yet, it still has enough kick in it to get me going.Just 'un-linear' it up a bit and Max payne 3 could rawk.

Yea i'm all for another Max Payne game. There's also supposed to be a movie in the works but haven't heard anything about that in a while.

I think Stranglehold will be my Max Payne 3 that's why i'm looking foward to it so much. It also adds another demension to the Max Payne games....Max Payne 1 was all about bullet-time and shoot-dodge, part 2 was all about the havok physics engine combined with the bullet-time combo meter and stranglehold (my Max Payne 3) looks to add environmental/object interaction including destructability along with some new moves.....so yea it seems like a perfect evolution to the Max Payne series.

It kills me every day knowing that I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the Max Payne games yet. icon_sad.gif
