Guitar Hero 360 fixed

360 News | New patch sorts out dodgy guitars.
RedOctane has released a software patch to help fix the defective whammy bars that affected a number of the X-plorer guitars that shipped with the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. The publisher says that the patch, which is available via Xbox Live, "should resolve the situation where input from the whammy bar was not always recognised."

Good on RedOctane, we say - so long as it works, that is. Anyone had a chance to try? Tell us the outcome in the forums.

Oh, so thats why It dropped out last night and had to update.

I'm not sure if there was anything wrong with the Whammy bar, although I had only been playing for 5 minutes when this happend... Having no previous GH experience before I wouldn't have noticed if there was a problem in the first place.

Good to see Red Octane fixed it quickly.

From what I could tell it seemed like it could easily have been either the whammy bar or the software at fault. If the problem can be fixed by adjusting the rotators inside the guitar, OR a software patch I guess it means that the problem existed with both.

Worked for me!
Just tried it then and the whammy is now working perfectly.

Wow great update, I had the problem with my guitar but its responding perfectly now!

If the 360 didn't have access to patches (like the PS2) then maybe these developers would have put some more time into ensuring that things like this don't actually happen in the first place.

Now i dont regret buying it now icon_biggrin.gif

Except the guitar is not made by the software company and they were probably completely unaware there were two versions had slightly different makes when they were doing the 360 version. At least they can and have gone to the effort of fixing it this fast.

I never had an issue initially, but either way it's good to hear. Now that faulty returned GH2 at our store isn't actually faulty anymore.

I find it bizarre that it was a software problem. I'd have thunk it to a manufacturing fault. Good thing it wasn't though, or else it wouldn't have been quite as easy a fix.

I echo Crestfallen's sentiments though. Developers are getting so complacent these days. Patches belong in PC land. I suppose it was only a matter of time before the two began to merge. I guess it comes as no surprise that Microsoft were the ones to initiate the change. It's like they planned it all along...

Hey, fantastic that they got it out so quickly! I'll have to jump online with the ol' 360 and grab it shortly. I wonder if the patch will also make me able to play through any song on 'hard' difficulty? icon_pout.gif
I fail at guitars.

Great!!!! Now I can finally join the 200K club. Don't think this will help me pass songs on hard or encourage theold lady to give it a go. Does this patch fix the "star power" tilt problem as well?

Moment I can get my hand on a 360 version, I'll pass Jordan and let you know whether the patch works or not, and how good the guitars are.

Good to know they got it out so quickly, on the mainy forums I've been on there's been so much outrage, even EB staff I've seen have been rather annoyed.

That's RedOctane, keepin' it real.

Now that this is fixed I guess that I will get it when i pick up my 360 in a few weeks. I wasn't going to get it until they fixed it up though.

On a side note though do you have to download updates and stuff through the 360 or can you download them onto a computer, burn them and then install it from that? Because I don't have broadband.
That's a good question. As far as I know as it's through the Live service, it needs to be done on XBL. I don't have broadband (Well, I do now, at the lasses house, but not at home) so it's a good point you raise as that would be very helpful to me also. As it means I can abuse the lasses connection, much Like I am currently. icon_wink.gif

I don't reckon they fixed anything, i still have a delay before my whammy kicks in and i think they are just creating a placebo effect so people will stop returning the guitars. It's a disgrace and I'm returning mine and just getting my money back. Those F**ker's don't deserve my hard earned cash. icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif

Wow, that's not good. As said, moment I can test it I will and shall post my own conclusions. But if it could be a placebo like that, there will certainly be a poor looking on them.

How bad is the delay, MonkeyMan?

Im not sure if mine was problematic or not..it was of the "faulty" batch but it usualy worked fine..

Oh well great the patch is out to fix it.

For those of you that have yet to pick the game up, apparently the majority of the faulty guitar instances have been the ones with 'Part No. 95055' labeled on the back of the case.

It would probably be a good idea to try to avoid buying the game with this number printed at the back.

Dude thats the serial number for mine.. and i think its working fine.. it isnt just that model number...it can be any..

Cursed number! =D

But thanks for the advice, I'll keep a look out when I go to go buy mine in a month or so. By then though it'll probably be out of circulation

Thanks for that Capoeira. I never would have thought to look at the actual serial number and probably would've gotten home and had a faulty guitar.

Actually, there were two models released, that one and 95065. Red Octane aren't fessing up to why this was the case though so there was definitely something fishy going on before launch. I'm sure some of the guitars of that number work fine, but why take the risk when the evidence is clear? -ish?

A software patch to remedy a hardware issue? Can anyone smell fish here?

There's a setting in the options menu for the whammy delay. If you're having a delay try changing that.

It's definitely not a placebo, mine rarely worked and now works 100% of the time.
