New Colin McRae: DIRT shots

360 News | Absolute filth.
As we reported way back in the mists of July 2006, the always excellent Colin McRae franchise will be represented on next-generation platforms by Colin McRae: DIRT. Ten new shots of the game found their merry way to our inbox this morning, all taken from the Xbox 360 version, though the game will also appear on PS3 (where it will have some serious rally competition, from the fine MotorStorm) and PC.

Out in June, rally fans. Point and click here for the screen goodness.

Those shots remind of this attitude to next-gen.

I might just have to get this pluly for crashing the cars, ah the memories! There has to be something good about car games right?

I just wish they'd not try so hard to make them look 'not-game-like' by aiming for realism, not surrealism. Bloom is bleh.

This game looks pretty mad... best looking car game for next gen I've seen so far.

I find it lacking severely when in motion tbh. The still images look pretty good, but when seeing this game in motion it feels pretty jerky and looks somewhat ugly.

I've been a fan of the Colin McRae series since it's PS1 roots. I cannot wait for this to come out. The more I see of it, the more I want it and these screens are only feeding that feeling. The Celica headlight pic is off the freaking hook. And realistic crashes! It's about time that made it into a game.

I need me some off road action and this game is sure to be exactly what I need. Of course, I'll be needing a wheel...

Seen a trailer? Honestly I was blown away by the screenies, but if animation's crap then there's no point.

The trailer I saw makes it look quite smooth - This is a 'real gameplay' trailer, rather than the massively sexed-up CG trailer they released (which was beautiful). I'd be tempted to pick this up, as the rally stuff looks pretty good, and I'm not someone who tends to go for driving games (that aren't way over the top arcadey).

The Ps1 version of Colin McRae is probably the most fun i've ever had with a racing game (that and Excite Truck). The mechanics were so solid and I used to love hooning down narrow, muddy paths in that!

I've seen this one in motion and Frozen is right....it doesn't look that good....but I have to say these latest images look like a huge step up from the video I saw a few weeks ago......so i'm keeping my hopes up.

i think Codemasters are amongst the most solid developers around, especially for racing sims, so that alone has me interested.

i also think the Colin McRae franchise is one of the best rally franchises around, so tick 2 from me.

i seriously hope this lives up to the hype. i haven't seen the video, but i have faith in Codemasters to do right.

i just really wish there were more Rally Sims, as opposed to the Rally Arcaders that get made.

IRT Obs:
For me the best Rally game developer was Magnetic Fields. They made Network Q RAC Rally in 1996 (one of my all time favourites) and Rally 2000 in 1999 (also known as Mobil 1 Rally Championship). Both brilliant and realistic rally games. Too bad I can't find a trace of them nowadays, but if you're really into rally racing, try Rally 2000.

Ok, just downloaded the trailer... Let's see what it looks like in motion...

OK, I definately see what you mean. But it seems it may be just the trailer or something. There is a noticable jerkiness to the whole affair, though to be fair they still have a few months to optimize the whole thing.

Watched the trailer on the 360 Marketplace... the cars looked very good but everything else looked somewhat lacking.

Still love the look of the game, might check it out.

This game just continues to impress me. I have seen some gameplay footage and i am eagerly awaiting this title. This could contend for the best next-gen racing game on the market when it hits.

There's been three really decent rally games as far as I am concerned; Richard Burns Rally, Rallisport Challenge 2 and the Colin McRae games of old.

I haven't played the more recent Colin McRae titles due to various reasons, but I thoroughly enjoyed Colin McRae Rally and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 back in the PSX days. Ever since it was announced I have been looking forward to DIRT and so far, the game looks pretty nice visually. It won't be the visuals that I will be playing this game for though so hopefully Codemasters come through for the final product. I didn't realise it was so close to release either, that's good to know. icon_smile.gif
