120GB Xbox 360 Hard Drive coming to Australia?

360 Rumour | How about next month?
PAL gamers may be no closer to finding out when the Xbox 360 Elite will be hitting store shelves, but that hasn't stopped Australian retailers from advertising the 120 GB hard-drive which, according to TopShop and Gamehead, will be available on the 15th of June for $229.95.

This indicates Microsoft may be looking at releasing the larger capacity hard drive, without releasing the Xbox 360 Elite, which still hasn't shown up in release schedules.

They're $210 after conversion to Australian dollars in America, why do we have to endure another $20 extra?
Anyway I'm glad I held off ordering one from America today.

How much will the Eliete be? Because I want it to be my first 360 rather than the White one with a small hard drive. As we all know americans get everything cheaper and quicker than us.

I've said this twice before but the answer to your question is... the screw Australian gamers tax icon_wink.gif

Then there's the shipping costs.

And GST and Sales Tax, which aren't included in the American price. I'd go as far as to say we're actually probably getting a good deal.

Good deal? Ha! This has got to be THE most expensive hard drive available anywhere in the world right now. A good quality 120gb HDD should set you back no more than $80 for a PC. This is the biggest rip-off Microsoft has tried to pull on the 360! I *really* want the extra space but damn that price is huge!

yeah I really hope they release the elite because I want the black one instead of the white one.

For a 2.5" HDD? I got $115, however I don't think that's a SATA 2 drive. Plus there's the casing and such, so I'm pretty sure it's not such a bad deal considering...

It is a bad deal because it makes no difference if it's a 2.5" drive to the consumer, it makes no differences if it's in a special casing. All that I (and I suspect most other people who want it) care about is the fact it has 120gb while my current one has 20gb. Therefore the 'extra bonuses' of casing and size are useless junk Microsoft decided *we* wanted to pay more for. Bad deal!

America has a VAT tax on some goods (which from memory includes computer games).

Though $210 gets me a 36GB Raptor to drop XP onto.

And if they release it bare bones everyone will bitch about MS being stingy.

I was hoping for it to be under $200, because with this and the HD-DVD Drive, the PS3 aint looking so expensive anymore.

The PAL tax is quite cheap considering how much more everything else costs

The damn truth. If I had to make a choice to buy a next gen console now, PS3 is definately worth the money over the 360. And that's only speaking hardware wise.

I wouldn't mind a hard drive upgrade for my premium but then again there isn't really any need for it. Besides there's a good chance might release some new fancy Xbox360 possibly even after the elite.

It's not worth the effort for Aussie X360 owners because we don't have access to the video marketplace.

Another huge factor against this purchase is the fact that once you transfer all your XBLA games they won't be able to be played offline.
i'm actually more worried about the transfer cable it comes with....I heard it's not 100% reliable and there are chances you could lose everything that you had on your original hdd.....that's not good. I don't really wanna take my chances losing my gamerscore, saved games and bought ones....that's just too risky.

I might just make do with the 360 I got and just make sure I delete unwanted content. I'll buy the Elite if/when my current model conks out.

Ugh, get a memory card as well, simply move your profile and saved games onto the card then transfer all the rest of the stuff with the cable.
Ugh you won't lost your gamerscore. That is kept with your identity. Everything else you are right about though.

I am not worried at all about losing data if I was to do the transfer, though.

Yea i'm just gonna keep deleting demos and game videos when I run out of room and then when there is no space left i'll delete all the music on my hdd and then when there is no space left after all that....yea then I might consider buying one. As it is i'm gonna try and make do with the space I have.

It sux cuz I don't wanna delete those episodes of South Park and Viva Pinata (cuz they are full episodes)....but I got them for free and they take up like a gig each.
Are we even going to get all those tv shows and stuff like America get, or is that not a possibility here? I see the 120gig hdd becoming a necessity for anyone that is downloading tv shows.

i'm considering purchasing an elite since i've heard they have fixed the heating problem (just that m$ wont admit it had a heating problem to begin with) but i'll have to keep an eye out because if this dies just as easily as the original 360, its not worth it.
If US gamers download lots of tv shows on their hard drive even a 120 GB will fill up fast I'd imagine. What does Microsoft have planned for that eventuality? I suppose you'll have to rely on a connected Windows Media Centre PC for more hard drive space.
