360 News | Taken from public beta, and looking swish.
With just four days to go until the Halo 3 public beta finally kicks into gear, Bungie has lavished nine new screens of the Xbox 360 shooter on our eager retinas. All of the shots were taken straight from the beta, and feature the three maps that will be available to players from early next week: Valhalla, Snowbound, and High Ground.
I have never "got" halo. I can not for the life of me understand why people love it so much!! I mean, I don't think they are bad games, just, not that great either. The first two looked really awsome, but I got really bored, really quickly. I just don't see anything amazing about them. everything just seemed so standard. I realise there were things about them that were really origonal, but I never understood why people loved them. I played halo for a few days when I first got it, and got bored. Same with halo 2, then i traded it in.
They may be tech heads over at Bungie, but I hope their artistic skills have improved since H1/2.
The grey, monotonous, uninspired headache inducing design (it did have some parts were good) in their previous games very nearly stopped me from finishing them.
And yeah, the Halo series as a FPS is average but is probably the best console FPS series out there (?).

I still prefer playing perfect dark on n64 to the halo games. But I much preferred XIII to most of the shooting games last gen. I thought that game was quite underrated and fun to play. To be honest, I mean, apart from the monotony of halo, I can't put my finger on exactly why I don't like it, rather, I can't figure out a reason why I should like it.....

Its a mystery to me as well. I've got Halo, both it and Halo 2 made some important innovations to fps but as an actual game they seem pretty repetitive to me. I just don't get why people go so ga ga over the Halo universe either.

Me too. I've beat Halo once on easy and I'll probably never play it again. But Perfect Dark I pick up over and over again. I still haven't finished perfect agent difficulty. Forget that Perfect Dark 0 crap though.

The first time I played a Halo game (Halo 2) I was struck by how boring the level design was. It reminded me of Star Wars with all those bland grey walls.
Back on topic. I think these graphics look quite nice retaining the style of the earlier Halo games. Not that I'm overly fond of their style.

^^ I did, and I thought it was quite normal. As far as console multilayer goes, again, perfect dark on n64 i had more fun with, and in fact still play, and XIII i played heaps as well, that was fun. But when i play fps multiplayer I usually play the battlefield games on PC. Never liked halo Multiplayer. On the first one I don't think you could even have bots... can't remember though...... but boring.....

I just played halo multiplayer with some friends this weekend.
One of them said exactly the same thing that he had more fun with perfect dark.

Ah yes, but did you try it as part of a LAN set-up with 8 or more players? If you did, fair enough, but that's where the real longevity lay IMO.
It you pay attention the graphics really are good. Very detailed.
Its just that the art design doesn't allow the quality of graphics to shine.
Agreed. The changes are very slight compared to Halo: CE to Halo 2. The MJOLNIR battle armour in Halo: CE for example was extremely different to the armour in Halo 2.
I still have an original Xbox atm (rather than a 360) and have never had Live, but both Halo games were extremely memorable experiences for me. 4 player split-screen multiplayer was fun, but I enjoy the immersive qualities of the story.
However, I'm putting off getting a 360 until the release date for Halo 3 is announced (at which point I will be pre-ordering the Legendary edition). Really, its the only game I _have_ to get on the 360 (and then FFXIII is exclusive on the PS3.. tis not fair for a loveallgames gamer..)
Regardless, Halo has always been a slightly overrated series (in terms of multiplayer anyway imho). Halo: CE was great, but it seems Bungie just have to rename something well known (deathmatch or jumppads) to something else and suddenly they are innovative geniuses (slayer and man-cannons). A continuation of the singleplayer story will be the selling point for me, and I'll probably fork out for Live just to join in the carnage with my friends (peer pressure ) otherwise I really wouldn't bother..
You need to pre-order the Legendary Edition nowish or you won't be getting one. My local EB gave me a call on Friday telling me you have to have $50 deposit on it or you'll be missing out (I assume because there are lots of pre-orders for it).

Ahh.. yeah my friend came to school the other day waving around an EB receipt for his Halo 3 Legendary preorder .. I'm probably going to pre-order it in 2-3 weeks, should be OK (worse comes to worse I'll settle for the Collectors edition).
