Original Prince of Persia coming to XBLA

360 News | Classic 2D side-scroller due out soon.

Remember the speculation that was kicked up a month or so ago, after a catchily-named German software rating organisation had listed the original Prince of Persia as a Xbox 360 release? Well, that rumour became reality today, with Ubisoft confirming that the classic title, first released in 1989, would be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade service in "the early-summer" (or early-winter for Aussies, of course).

Prince of Persia Classic will come with new enemies, traps and puzzles and, while the visuals will be tweaked (see the Media Panel), the title will remain a 2D game. Mobile phone gaming specialist Gameloft is in charge of development.

Hrmm... I wonder if it will come with a 'classic' mode or that will let players go through the original game as it was, without new enemies/hazards/etc. ? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a 'new' 2D PoP experience styled around the old one, but I'd really appreciate the choice.

Either way, more good content for XBLA is a good thing in my books.

Wow, you're not wrong; that looks hot! I really wasn't expecting the whole 2.5D thing, but it certainly changes my view of it entirely. I was thinking they were just keeping it 2D and re-tooling a few levels with a few different paths/enemies etc.
Now all I want is for them to keep the ever so basic yet awesome sword fighting system from the original (yeah, I'm a game-luddite). *tink-tink-tink-tink-clink-tink-tink-ARRRGHH*

Ohhh YEAA!! That looks awesome!! Honestly a remake of Prince of Persia with done up graphics and stuff but still in 2d....PERFECT!! That's all I have to say.....PERFECT!!

I hope there are a couple of new moves too....that would give the game a little more depth...and I too loved the combat in the original but it was way too easy and predictable....maybe with a couple of new moves we could see some better duels.

Hmm, looks interesting, but oddly I think the original had better animation (thanks to their mocap back in the day). I wonder if this game will include the original, or perhaps a cheat to unlock the original character design. I also wonder if the new version will still have the original 1 hour limit.

Sands of Time on the Xbox has a code where you can unlock the original or part 2 (I forget...but they're both awesome games)...so i've already got part 1, so i'm actually glad the remake/updated version is the one in the works for Arcade.

This looks super lame. A rebuild of an old game to make it 2.5d, lame. I would prefer to play a modern version like sands of time, or the origonal version... that would be sweet. One of the few good things I have to say about the wii atm is that they don't update and change their VC games. If I want to play an old game, I want to play the game EXACTLY as it was first made......

As for 2.5D PoP it sounds like a great idea to me, so long as the hazards are still one hit kill and the time limit remains I would be happy to spend 10 to 20 bucks on this. However, they need to change the final stage, that freaking run across crap drove me nuts in the original, PUT IN A DAMN BRIDGE!

wow amazing, i was really scarred of the first game since i'm prone to falling in deadly traps but this still is great news ^_^ it doesnt look like some half assed rebuild either, very happy about this update

Damn, that looks good.

teashades: If you're not interested in a remake of PoP, then don't post in such an offensive manner with "super lame", the fact that a 2D (or 2.5D) game is being done with next-gen graphics is something that a lot of people are looking forward to, and if it just happens to be a remake of the original PoP, all the better (as long as they do a good job).

^^ I honestly can not understand how me thinking that a game looks like it will be lame is offensive to anyone... Were you guys involved in the production of this game? Why do you care if I think it looks crap? I don't care that you think it looks good.... And it isn't an offensive statment anyway... if i had said a derogatory comment about your mum as well maybe thats offensive... but the game thing is just my opinion.

I'm sure a lot of people are looking forward to it, and I think it looks really crap. So what?

I apologize for misinterpreting your initial post in regards to what you were trying to get through, however my initial impression was that you were attacking the whole 2.5D genre and remakes (one that I think actually may deserve a remake at that).

Huh???? Why is this even a problem that I am expressing an opinion that I don't think this game looks good? And how is calling a game stupid offensive to anyone? I'm sure you all would think a lot of things I enjoy are stupid, so what? For instance I love Zelda TP, but if someone here thinks it is a stupid game, I couldn't care less. It's not like I was involved in the production of it or an related to Myamoto or whatever.....

and Ugh, I am just saying I think a game is stupid, essentially, that is what forums are for, for people who's opinions don't matter to talk crap about stuff that doesn't matter..... We aren't exactly doing anything constructive here, people say they like a game, people say they don't like a game... its just killing time whilst we are bored at work and dont have the ability to play games...... I'm just saying I think the game looks stupid. It has no more value or validity than someone else saying they think the game looks good......

Shame I wasn't actually here for any of this because I could have saved a whole lot of discussion, my comment was more due to the fact that it felt like this thread was going to derail onto the Wii (as has often occured) and I've been getting sick of that.

Instead I managed to derail it in a different way and ostracised a member because of it... and on that note I think I should do the ironing, I seem good at it.

So yeah, I didn't actually care that you didn't approve of the remake (even though it seems like a strange decision to me). Oh, and my post isn't deleted although it will be editted.

I'm a huge fan of the 2.5 perspective like in Klonoa, pandamonium etc.

Can't wait to grab this one.Looks fantastic!

Damn I'm going to have to buy like 2 1500 point cards for all the stuff I want to get on live.
