Time to get DIRT-y

360 News | As the racer demo goes live.
With Forza Motorsport 2 still a few weeks away, some enthusiasts may be tiring of the demo that was released a couple of weeks ago. The good news if you're a fan of driving simulators, is that the demo for Colin McRae DIRT is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. PC fans have not been forgotten either, with their own demo avaliable as well.

Colin McRae DIRT is the latest from Codemasters' pet racing series. The final game will contain over 45 officially licensed cars, over 100 liveries, will encompass 9 different styles of off-road competition and several different locations around the world. Not just satisfied with point-to-point racing, DIRT looks to add the most diverse selection of off-road racing modes to be seen in a rally game. The game will also feature online multiplayer and a brand new physics and damage engine.

As mentioned, the game is available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace, while PC gamers can head here or here for their demo. Don't forget to clean up afterwards.

Jeepers, it looks amazing.

I generally love Rally games, but never have the patience to finish the game. Colin McRae on PSP was friggin hard.

Lots of good games on the box now.

I think I was the only person to buy Colin McRae 2005 (damn Starforce) and while it played and looked great, I think I'm over rally games.

Probably due to how many hours I sunk into Rally Championship 2000 and Colin McRae 2.

Will get the demo and play in a few days though.

Rally Championship 2000
Brilliant game.

I haven't played a decent rally game since Rally 2000, so I'm really hoping DIRT will reignite my interest in the genre.

^ awesome, i thought I was the only person to have played that game. It had so many things to do and such a challenge.

I can still remember the feeling when I unlocked the A8 class. Can't remember if that's the right name but it was the Impreza, Lancer and a few others.
Good times.

Played the demo on PC last night and found that it was lagging out under full settings getting 1fps max. Source of the problem was the Refresh Rate setting set to 59, changing to 60 fixed the issue.

I loved playing around and just crashing, the damage is really amazing, and there is nothing like seeing the rails you run into bend around your car. I'm not a rally game fan, but damn the demo was pretty impressive.

Holy crap on a stick that demo is impressive. Anything and everything I think of, has been done brilliantly in DiRT. Be it the handling, the way the cars feel, how the game looks, sound, crash damage...

Just everything about it screams awesomeness. And damn the game looks a treat as well. Definitely buying this game now, although I was going to anyway. icon_wink.gif

Another thing I'll mention; I'm very interested in the next V8 Supercar game now since it will be using the same engine that DiRT is using.

Downloaded the demo. It ran ok on High detail settings with a single car, but it ran like crap in the truck racing level. I attribute this to my soon to be replaced processor, so I'm not too worried. Game looks beautiful, but the bloom level is freaking insane. It looks like I'm playing through the eyes of a driver high on some crazy mixture of drugs and alcohol. If there were an option to turn it down just a touch the game would be perfect. Apart from that the cars handle well and the damage modelling is great (though it's not the spectacular leap foreward as one would hope)
