Xbox 360 Stranglehold: CE to retail for $129.95 in Australia

360 News | PlayStation 3 CE not coming at all.
Midway has sent out a release schedule today confirming once again that John Woo Presents Stranglehold will be available on the 6th of September, 2007 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. As we reported last month the PlayStation 3 Collector's Edition which comes with Hard Boiled will not be available at all in Australia.

The standard edition for Strangehold will retail for $119.95 but what really stood out to us was the fact that the Xbox 360 Collector's Edition will retail for $129.95. The special edition retails for $69.95 in America ($80 AUD). The Xbox 360 Collector's Edition contains:

  • Poetry In Slow Motion - Behind-the-scenes documentary on Midway bringing the style of John Woo to video games.
  • Extended Cinematic Sequences - Extended scenes which didn't make it into the final game.
  • MTV Studio Visit - Follow MTV visit with the game team during crunch time.
  • The Vision of Stranglehold - See the progression from concept art to final game.
  • The Sound of Stranglehold - An insiders look at sounds design.

If the Ps3 version is region free I might import that otherwise i'll have to settle for the 360 version cuz I want all those extras!

Does anyone know if the american version actually has all those extras aswell as Hard Boiled, cuz I couldn't give a damn about Hard Boiled (already have it) but i want everything else.

Being that the American version actually has a copy of the movie on their special edition there is a good chance it'll be region coded and even if it's not because that movie hasn't been rated here they might be forced to put a region code on it to stop people from importing it.

Anyone know anything about this? Raarrr.....slowly i'm turning into a lion.

That is so deliciously quoteable that I'd put it into my sig in an instant... if I could. I tried! It won't allow me to though, I guess I have too much to fit a quote in too.

I'd really love to know about the possible region lock on Hard Boiled, too. If it isn't locked and and it comes with the bonus content then I'd import in a flash - otherwise, as you say, it's the 360 vers. for me.

Microsoft appear to be desperate to have their versions outsell Stranglehold PS3

Fanboy logic... gotta love it!

As was discussed here when news hit that the Euro PS3 version wouldn't be getting Hard Boiled, its likely to be a licensing issue. DO you really think Microsoft went out of their way to block the limited edition of the PS3 version of Stranglehold? I'm sure you're right, I mean it's not like they have anything better t do... icon_wall.gif

Well that sucks for PS3 owners, LoL at picture where do people think of these things.

Hmm so would the Yank version be region locked...tricky.

it's purely a licensing issue. The PAL rights for Hard Boiled are owned by several third parties who are likely to have all wanted differing royalty rates - typically far higher than in the US - making the deal unworkable for Midway.

Sony as yet won't let any publisher put anything other than a blu-ray disc in the packaging, hence the bonus dvd in the 360 CE not appearing in the standard PS3 edition - meaning there is no point in doing the SE for PS3 in PAL.

Can't the ACCC do something about the inflated prices for electronic entertainment software in Australia?

Can PALGN do a story about this? Perhaps if the publishers start to see the media shedding some light on their blatant profiteering they'll back off a little.

I'm pretty sure the game is region locked for Stranglehold on PS3.
