Xbox 360 Elite Australian date revealed?

360 Rumour | As well as price. Halo Xbox 360 also priced.
While we were out updating our release dates for tomorrow, we stumbled on some interesting information at Australian online retailer Topshop. According to them, the Xbox 360 Elite, the slightly modified Xbox 360 that had a black matte finish, HDMI port and 120GB harddrive, does indeed have an Australian release intended. And it's not too far away.

With a European release set for the 24th August, the information that we found indicates that the Elite will see an Australian release on 30th August. Also, it will apparently retail for $AU729.95, $AU80 more than the Xbox 360 Premium pack was at launch. While it hasn't quite been confirmed, this suggests that the European price will be around EUR450/GBP300 or so, though one British online retailer is reporting a GBP330 price tag.

However, since there has yet to have been any official news, we're still going to file this one under rumour. Still, given the price drop on all Xbox 360 packages this week, these prices may seem a little excessive to some once exchange rates are taken into account.

Another interesting tidbit that we found related to the Halo 3 Xbox 360. It looks like the console will be very similar to the Premium model, as it will include all the same contents (e.g. 20GB harddrive). However, it will also give players access to Halo 3 gamer pics and themes and the console itself will include a HDMI port and Halo themed finish. According to Topshop, the price will be $AU679.95 (EUR420/GBP280), which is still $AU30 more than a premium pack (though these can now be found much cheaper).

Again, we must reiterate that this information is based off a retailer, rather than official confirmation by Microsoft. However, past history indicates that retailers have been reasonably accurate on these kinds of matters. Please stay tuned to PALGN, as we'll bring you more as we find it.

Bit too expensive, but the Halo one with a HDMI port is ok if your a Halo fan. I want to get a new 360, my one sounds like a jet lol. If they have a good offer at eb for trade ins i might trade it for a halo console.

The Xbox 360 Elite has several distinctive features which will distinguish it from the other two SKUs; a matte black finish, a 120GB HDD, a HDMI output port and peripherals with a finish similar to that of the console. The Elite will also retain the chrome finish that appeared on the original Xbox 360 Premium system.

The Elite can upscale DVD's out of the box using the included HDMI cable.[7]

Other accessories confirmed to be available on April 29, 2007 include black wireless controllers, black play and charge kit and black extra battery pack. A bundle pack is available containing one black wireless controller and one black play and charge kit.

Actually it isnt bad for first time buyers. £280 is roughly a price for premium in the UK (though you can get it cheaper), you do get extras with it. I dont see me trading my 360 though.

I saw a poster for the Elite Xbox 360 when walking past a Harvey Norman store over here in WA a couple of days ago which suggests that this may be true

When I went to my local EB Games store couple weeks ago, the guy there said it was going to cost $1000AUD, so I guess he was wrong.

I’m not Microsoft, but I can second the article and tell you that this is the news Aussie retailers have received.

A few other things I noticed:

- Along with the halo 3 gamer pics and theme (exclusive download via LIVE), the package also comes with a Halo 3 wired headset, a play and charge kit, a 1 month gold membership, and, of course, the HDMI port (and cable!). It’s set for the 25th of September.
- The genuine wireless Spartan controller apparently comes the day after, on the 26th, and will retail for $89.95, along with the wireless headset on the 28th, which will go for $69.95.
- The 360 messenger kit is listed for the 28th of September, for a RRP of $49.95.

I seriously can’t help but feel a little disappointed with the “Elite”. I’ve already gotten over the fact that it should have been released in this form (just like the GBA SP, blah, blah), but asking for almost $100 on top of that price, almost a year after the 360’s release, feels like being spat on (I’m guessing, anyway). I’ve heard that they come with quieter drives... can anyone clarify this, and if it means that there will be no more scratched discs? Also, the new 65nm chipset – apparently the Elite has it... does anyone know for sure? I’ve heard people over in the U.S. claim it’s got the same issues, yet I’m hearing it indeed comes with the improved features... does anyone have any concrete details on the Aussie release of the Elite?

I thought they hadn't announced whether the Elites have the new chipset? Or they're still using whatever the current ones have.

tbh they should just add compatibility with 3rd party external HD's, as opposed to charging obscene amounts for a little more space.

The Core model shouldn't have been released either, imo, they should've went similar to the PS3's 20GB and 60Gb.

I don't think the new chips are being used yet, for one the Elite's are having the same problems as the other versions and two because only a couple of weeks ago I read an article here on Palgn which said that a new factory (in Taiwan or China or somewhere) was onyly just starting to make machines with the new chips....so I hardly reckon they'd be on store chelves already.

I'll buy the elite once they start coming out with the new chipsets. I want the black finish, the 120 gb hdd and the HDMI port. I'll keep my other one as a spare or i'll try and sell it. Atleast you get about $70 for your hdd from EB so you can knock that off the purchase price.

I've got this bad habit of only being content with the best gear.

What about the Halo 3 edition consoles, any word on whether they'll be using the new chips? I'd buy one of those (and hawk my launch one) just for that.

Plus I just love that burnt orange/bronze detailing on them... icon_redface.gif
