Xbox Live choking

360 News | Too much turkey?
Microsoft's Xbox Live service has been experiencing technical difficulties throughout the Christmas period. The issues have been acknowledged on Major Nelson's blog, the Xbox Live team's avenue for communicating Live-related news and developments.

Based on comments on the blog post, the problems appear to be affecting users in the US, the UK, Australia and Canada, and are presumably service-wide. The issues, which began around December 22 and are yet to be entirely resolved, include difficulty logging in, downloading updates and demos, playing multiplayer matches and accessing statistics.

According to Major Nelson's blog post, the Xbox Live team is working as hard as it can to resolve the issues, and 'no one on the team is going anywhere until the job is done'.

The wii shop channel is also a disaster at the moment. That update has stuffed up something and I can never really browse the shop channel for more than 5 minutes without an error.

I unfortunatly bought my 360 fairly recently and it was suffering from dropouts then, then they for some unknown reason lost my live account and now I have a new gamertag there are more dropouts....

Not happy so far... I hope this is not usual.....

nah, it started recently, i think its pretty random at the moment, i couldnt sign in for about 9 hours on the 23rd, but i havent had any problems like that before

Hopefully MS will get this sorted out quickly. I've been having trouble signing in to live for the past week now, some times it'll work without any hassles other times it'll take forever to sign in or just not sign in at all.

Thank god, I thought it was just my 360 going screwy. Even contemplated about returning it.

I lost my account in limbo for 24 hours after I tried to recover my account from a 2nd console.

It's a bit of a worry. I'm about to go to work for a few nights, hopefully it's fixed by the time that I get home.
If my wife finds out that live is down, she may want affection. Please help me Microsoft!

And some of you pay for this 'service'?

I've been unable to play games with my friends list. GH3 and CoD4 I can play against randoms, but always timed out trying to hook up with friends.

Yep. Some of us pay for sex too, and that sure as hell doesn't work all the time.

Was very annoying this afternoon, took 4 goes to download the patch for Crackdown as the first 3 times it would time out during download and then freeze the game icon_sad.gif

I sure as hell would happily spend $80 a year and have a good service like LIVE, then pay nothing and have a service like the Wii online system.

I've been playing Halo 3 a lot (and sign into XBL every time the console is on) and have had absolutely ZERO problems within this time frame. I've read about this all over but I have had no problems - and Halo 3 seems to be running faster than usual too!

I must be extremely lucky. With that said I will now wake up tomorrow morning to a broken XBL as karma punishing me for gloating.

It's just that if you pay for a service and it doesn't do what it is supposed to (and at the most critical time of the year) you should be entitled to some compensation - allot of Live users are feeling this way:

I'm another one who hasn't really had any problems. There was one night where I couldn't send messages (kept getting the 'this message cannot be sent' message) but otherwise everything has been fine. No login issues, playing online has been easy (like always) and yeah everything has just worked like normal. Which is why it is sorta weird reading about everyone else having issues. Whatever caused them, it's certainly serious but not serious enough to affect everyone. icon_confused.gif

I know here in the US, it choked enough that the online status for live was changed and that major nelson was updating twitter with the tinest of progress to appease people. didn't work.

I've been unable to even sign in lately, which is annoying since my Gold expires on the 3rd and I haven't gotten around to getting a 12 month card yet. Compensation would certainly be appreciated.

Mine has been alright until you decide to actually play another person online, then Call of Duty 4 doesn't want to recognize you online. Microsoft really need to review it quickly before holiday gamers go vigilante on Redmond.

They deleted 10 pages of people complaining off the xbox forums when it first happened.

Yup have been having the same problems discussed in the article (mainly being unable to login)
Hopefully this is a temporary thing and will be fixed soon icon_y1.gif
