V8 Supercar Race Driver 2 will feature 31 championships, covering 15 sports, 52 tracks and 35 cars. Included in the game this time are the Holden Commodore’s who were absent from the previous title. Adding novelty to the game are some different Supercar series’ from Super truck racing to Rally cross racing there will be a diverse amount of cars to race with.
A total of ten V8 Supercar licensed tracks will be present, some of them are new additions from the previous title. The tracks included are; Eastern Creek, Adelaide, Phillip Island, Barbagello, Hidden Valley, Oran Park, Sandown, Surfers Paradise, Pukekohe and of course, Bathurst. The entire game has been remodeled so the tracks will look more realistic than ever.
Tracks have extra detail this time and in the background of Surfer’s paradise players can see skyscrapers and clear Queensland weather. Fans look more interactive and bring the game to life with flags and banners visible in the background. Light reflects heavily off the car and at times it is hard to tell it is a game. Updated teams and sponsorship is also viewable on the decals of the cars.
There will be 21 cars battling for position and amazingly the game will run at a constant 60 frames per second. This should mean the game will run smooth consistently. Xbox live support is included immediately this time, as is system link. The AI has been revamped, the original title showed some of the most unique AI in a title yet but Codemasters obviously weren’t satisfied and the AI will now respond with controlled aggression.
The original title followed Ryan McKane as a struggling young driver, this time Codemasters promise an interactive storyline which drives progression throughout the championships, immersing the player.
As reported here V8 Supercar Race Driver 2 also features a new damage engine. Titled the terminal damage engine, it is promised to have numerous points of damage for your car. It would be fun in the original title to just have a quick race to destruct a V8 – something you can’t do in real life, and V8 Supercar Race Driver 2 ensures this is still possible.
Codemasters have worked exceptionally hard and obtained the licenses for just about everything in this game. Some of the more exceptional fully licenses cars in the game include the Aston Martin (V12 Vanquish, DB7 and DB5), Jaguar (XJ220, XKR and E-Type), Ford (Mustang Cobra R, Ford GT, GT90, F150 Lightning Pick-up, Falcon BA), Holden Commodore VY, Mitsubishi 3000 GT, Mitsubishi EVO 7, Subaru Impreza WRX, ABT-Audi TT-R, Opel Astra V8 Coupe and AMG-Mercedes CLK.
V8 Supercar Race Driver 2 is due out May 8th for Xbox and PC. We expect a Playstation 2 version will be available later on as the game sold amazingly on the PS2. V8 promises a lot, will it be good? We hope so.
