EA to publish Oddworld: Stranger

Xbox News | Oddworld no longer an Xbox exclusive.
Electronic Arts has announced today that it has signed an agreement with Oddworld Inhabitants for the worldwide publishing rights to the next Oddworld title (currently Oddworld: Stranger) for the Xbox and Playstation 2.

Oddworld: Stranger's release has been in doubt since the title lost a publisher last month. Electronic Arts has picked up the publishing rights and Oddworld is set for release in 2005.

With this next title the Oddworld team has taken a combination of traditional genres and added their own unique twists to deliver a refreshingly new interactive experience. Players step into the role of the Stranger, a western-style bounty hunter, who chases outlaws throughout the enthralling new frontier of the Oddworld universe. Set to award-winning visuals, players will be moved by the complex and inspiring story as the Stranger comes to grips with his true nature in the hunt for the ultimate bounty.

PALGN will have more news on Oddworld: Stranger as it breaks.

I've been sitting by my PS2 for some time, waiting for a new Oddworld game, if i'm counting right, this is the 3rd game of the 5 that Oddworld Inhabitants intend to make (I think its one game per character, so only one of the Abe games count). I hope I can finally play some Oddworld goodness icon_biggrin.gif

But I remember back to before this generation, when the X-Box, PS2 and NGC were just pictures in a magazine, the next oddworld game looked amazing, although it looks like we will have to wait a while longer for Oddworld Inhabitants to truly create Oddworld.

Originally the 3rd title was exclusive to the PS2 or at least rumoured to be. But it changed obviously.

It wasn't just a rumor, thats what it was, then the X-Box came along and Oddworld Inhabitants jumped ship, this was about 2-3 years before the game actually came out.

i think it was the same with Halo as well, dont quote me on that but i do have a magazine from years ago which had this..

yeah this game should be good, but it would be better to revert back to the 2D, they were much better in my opinion, don't ask why. Abe's oddesy and Exodus always reminded me of the Prince of Persia originls that's mprobably why, so if they could do it like that again i will be well chuffed!

yeah this is right... sort of... it wasn't originally a single platform game, but months before its release Bungie was bought by Microsoft, hence no more PS2 support... and it was due for release on PC simultaneously originally too, but making it a staggered release allowed for more XBox console sales...

back to Oddworld... i really enjoyed the Abe Games, but never got into Munch... i'll have to wait and see, i would also prefer an Abe-Like (or PoP-like if you prefer) game, but doubt this will happen... maybe each installment will be a different genre... maybe this will be RTS, or 3rd Person Action...
