Xbox owners may not see Doom III until 2005

Xbox News | 'Probably not going to come out this year' is the word from id Software.
The Xbox port of Doom 3 looks set to be delayed until 2005, according to id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead. Speaking to Reuters last Friday, Hollenshead admitted that, "It's probably not going to come out this year," before adding that, "back in May, we were kind of hoping we'd have a holiday launch. I'm not sure we're going to get there."

The Xbox conversion, which is being handled by Vicarious Visions and is set to include co-operative and Xbox Live support, has been cast in doubt before - with Hollenshead again recently informing CNN/Money that a release date was "still up in the air". The latest comments sound far more concrete however, meaning a Christmas sans Doom is now a near-certainty.

Whilst the delay means the port will avoid the usual Christmas competition (which promises to be quite formidable this year with Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas on the starting blocks), it does mean the game looks likely to slip into January or February, a period in which consumers historically prefer to keep their wallets tightly zipped.

More as it develops.

Yeah, but

However, the PC version sold almost 300,000 copies in it's first week, which is an excellent result for a PC game
which cancels that out icon_razz.gif

(Not that I have an Xbox to play that version on, but it's always irritating when games get delayed 'til after Christmas icon_kero.gif)

I'm sure it's a port. The xbox version is being slightly altered to make it run smoothly. And it has a co-op mode too.
