Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix announced

Xbox News | But will it make it to PAL regions?
Rockstar Games have announced that Midnight Club III: Dub Edition Remix will be available in North America from March.

The game will be a greatest hits title and will retail for a lower price than the normal RRP of games. The remixed version will be available on the Playstation 2 and Xbox (with nothing said of a PSP version) and will feature the original game, as well as twenty four new vehicles, a new city (Tokyo), new music, new races and battle maps.

Lately it is becoming more and more common that developers release titles with extra content when the game is reduced in price, with Devil May Cry III: Special Edition coming out only last week in America. There is no word yet on whether the game will make it's way to PAL regions, but we will find out and report back when we know anything substantial.

At the moment this means very little to me considering I am still yet to play/own Midnight Club 3. (or even 2 for that matter)

As for releasing 'remixes' of games in general, not sure how I feel on that either. If it has enough new content then yeah maybe the new release is justified but I don't know. I think I will form an opinion of it once it becomes more regular because it seems to be definitely heading that way.
On an unrelated note, why are new games being announced for the current consoles still? Yes they still have life in them but with the length of development time why bother?

Talk about milking a francise. If say Nintendo released 4 Mario Karts in as many years on the GC everyone would be up in arms, but it seems ok to have yearly Midnight Club, Need for Speed, SSX, Ratchet, Jak, etc updates. I don't mind sequels, but with the money the likes of Rockstar, Sony and EA have these days it'd be nice if they spent their time/money towards making something new instead of spending a year updating last years games for an easy profit. People buy them so I can't blame them really, but I personally think 3 games in one generation is enough. If the first game becomes a hit, the 2nd fixes any problems the first has while the 3rd should push the hardware to the limit.

Ignore me, I'm ranting.

I loved MCII, but as yet haven't gotten around to getting Dub. Might have to pick it up if the remix gets released here.

They've pretty much released 7 Mario Parties in as many years. If Mario Party 8 is announced at E3 this year I'm going to punch somebody in the face.

Unless it's for the Revolution, in which case all is forgiven, temporarily.

Well there's my point, the one game they do have yearly updates people are quick to complain about them icon_razz.gif It always makes me laugh when say a new Mario sports game is unveiled and you only have to look at various forums to hear people complaining about how Mario is being milked. When there’s a Mario Golf, a Mario Tennis, a Mario Baseball, etc every year, THEN people can comment. But one per generation is hardly milking.

Mario Party and Pokemon are their only real offenders while the likes of EA have yearly versions of Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, Bond, SSX, Tiger Woods, FIFA, Madden, NHL, NBA, NCAA, F1, NASCAR, Fight Night and now Burnout (not to mention the countless The Sims add ons every few months). UbiSoft are becoming guilty of this recently too. Take Prince of Persia for example, Warrior Within would never have happened had they put more time into their next Persia game instead of rushing one out within 12months of the first game. I can see the reason behind sports game updates as the latest teams, kits, etc are a valid reason to release a new version each year, but it would really be nice if just for once 2 years was spent on the next Medal of Honor, Prince of Persia, Need for Speed or Rainbow Six.

With the amount of money EA have they could make any game they wanted, but the risks they take are minimal which is why they will never be capable of making REAL games like say RE4, Shadow of the Colossus, Metroid, Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda or God of War. It’s not fair that it’s always left to others to take the risks, push the envelope when it comes to design and originality while they just play it safe with yearly sports/fps/film license updates and rake in the money.

Sorry to rant, but it just saddens me when I see how Capcom are now starting to struggle when it’s arguably been them more than anyone this generation who have not only made some fantastically original games, but some bloody good ones at that.

I agree with you for the most part Chris, but EA have to be commended for Most Wanted. I think so anyway, I mean they could have quite easily just done another Underground installment but instead they chose to mix things up again and the result was/is quite possibly the best NFS game yet. That is surely something that is worth noting, no?

What about Burnout too? Is it so bad that it is a yearly release (it's only happened once too, so it's not really happening yet) when the games have been absolutely rocking? EA and their monopoly could have quite easily taken complete control over Criterion but instead Criterion (for the most part) have been left to do their own thing.

One final thing I wanted to mention, normally by this time of the year a new Need for Speed would have been announced (and probably a Burnout too) and yet we haven't seen a thing. Maybe that means nothing, or maybe it means that they aren't releasing installments in the franchise for now because they're forming ideas or testing the new hardware or whatever. Naturally time will tell.
